I just picked up this cool vintage Sears Camp Stove made by Coleman and thought it'd be fun to see if it would light on the old fuel that was left in the tank. I have no idea how old the fuel is, but it smells like very old gasoline. I have not done any work to the stove yet, not even wiped off dust or dirt.

For safety I am doing this outside and have a fire extinguisher nearby.
I pump up the tank, it seems to be holding pressure. I pre-heat the generator with a propane torch. The goal here is to help loosen any gummy fuel that may be blocking the generator and the heat will immediately help atomize the pressurized liquid fuel. (Less sooty flame while the generator warms up from the stove burner too hopefully). Time to open the valve to see... Will it light?
These stoves were built to last in the U.S.A. and parts for them are still available. There are many great resources for vintage Coleman gear and I will share a few in the next video as I do the mechanical rebuild of this Sears Camping stove (made by Coleman).
The stove is stamped on the front face:
SEARS ROEBUCK AND CO.
MODEL 476.74970
MADE IN U.S.A.
I believe this is the equivalent of a Coleman 413 model (larger than the more common 2-burner Coleman 425)
• Burners are spaced 11" from center to center
• Suitcase measurements closed: 22.5" (W) 14.5" (D) 6.375" (H)
• Stove grates are angled toward the center-rear (which I believe is unique to some Sears stoves made by Coleman)
• Paint and decal are original
• Tank tab is stamped D64 (which I believe = 1964)
I plan to disassemble and clean the valve and generator, thoroughly clean the burner assemblies and fuel tank, inspect the pump and check valve and clean the surfaces of the case and grate in an upcoming video, and then take it camping!
