Show and Tell knitting podcast focuses on vintage (and vintage-inspired) hand knit garments, how to make them and how to accessorize them. Your host, Billie ("billietoy"), uses costume jewelry, hats, handbags, gloves and scarves to style each sweater.

A very interesting interview and an insight into the history of Shetland handknits. Well done Ella for rescuing this amazing collection and for keeping it safe and worthy for a Museum exhibition. A shout out to those amazing knitters that did what they did to survive financially. It’s just a pity the value of handknits has been lost in modern times and throw away fashion. I just hope one day soon the appreciation for hand crafted garments will return.

Hi Billie, Hi Ella. Thanks so much for this conversation, it was such a relaxed interview - always the best and most informative type, I feel. I enjoyed hearing about some of the social history, hearing Ella's views on many topics and, of course, seeing the jerseys. I especially liked the one you were wearing, Ella. But, also the first one you showed. The colours, the seed stitch, the shape, and how well worn and loved it is. I love that you wear them - I collect vintage crockery (mostly from as you say 'the golden age' of charity shopping), but always use it too, despite the risks. I hope you could get funding to help you catalogue your interest in the everyday garments. On the other hand perhaps that would spoil the pleasure you obviously have in the subject. I'm just glad you are doing this and so happy to talk about it all. I really hope you will do another interview with Billie at some point. Thanks, both! (Have watched this twice already!)

What an enjoyable episode! I didn't want it to end lol. Just started the fair isle section of my cardigan, so this was perfect viewing while I knit it. Ella was a great guest, saving Shetland history one knitwear at a time 😁. Shows that something that you might take for granted or see as everyday in your community is something very special to others and should be treasured. I really missed your interview episodes, Billie. Glad it's back!

@@ShowandTellknitting I'm done with my mad rush to finish accessories for the upcoming trip. Back to the cardigan I put on hold a while ago. No Shetland wool, its not available to me and shipping is too expensive atm. Sometimes it costs even more than the items I want to buy, so I just leave it and make do with what I can get locally. I'm using an alpaca blend for the cardigan. Nothing as intricate and fine as your projects. I have to build up skills and motivation for that lol!
