What a difference a few blocks and a few months make! We revisit the incredible MCM, antiques and vintage design stars that fill Lander Street Vintage in Seattle, Washington, where the merger of two malls has created a supermall of antique delights for serious collectors and decorators all over the west coast.
I've sold a ton here in just my first few months, so it's time to restock! After a nearly $5000 sales month, I'm bringing some of my favorites from last year's Thrift Battles to sell in this hot market...psychedelic posters for black light enthusiasts, a handsome Mexican Colonial cabinet and the props from Northern Exposure all need to be exposed to a big-city audience. Add in a Kartell Italian designer stool, a large Dodge copper horse and a collection of Sascha Brastoff Alaskan pieces, and the booth is ready for the next flood of customers!
Then we get to see how the rest of the mall has integrated the many new dealers, and it's impressive! Home-like vignettes of mid-century designer furniture, art walls, racks of vintage fashion, even a Gilbert Rohde 1930s settee have replaced piles of unsorted boxes and chairs.
So many great antique and vintage items to see...Legras cameo and Pilchuck School glass pieces, a collection of Kokeshi dolls, exquisite runway jewelry by Larry Vrba and a half-scale airplane model are among the crazy cool stuff we get to explore here! Our visit to Lander Street Vintage makes clear why this is now the must-see antique and vintage mall in the Pacific Northwest.

Good evening, George! I really like that lady bust in your booth. Absolutely LOVED that chimney top! I can't believe Bristol is so underappreciated, either. It is really nice, beautiful glass. The Lismore is my favourite Waterford pattern. That ca. 1900 two-tone marble bust was fantastic! The French Madonna and Child chalkware figure is something that really attracts me. There was a bust to the right of the French Bombay-style chest that caught my eye. I've always liked that sort of thing. That was a really interesting place. Thanks for taking us along!

Hello! I was just thinking about you, and there comes a comment, thanks! I rarely seem to find real antique items anymore, but I feel that younger people are starting to open up to some traditional things and so it was time. Thank you for sharing my thoughts on Bristol, I know there's several of us who feel the same. I think I like the diamond point patterns the best, but Lismore is certainly stylish and tasteful. Isn't that a great bust? I could collect those. I'm so glad that even though this place is modern-focused, they have room and design that allows some real antiques to be part of the presentation

@@TheAntiqueNomad I hope it was good thoughts! 😂 The true antiques are where my interests lie, and I've been noticing there haven't been a lot of them available for your premiers. Are there more true antiques available in other parts of the country? I grew up in the 60s...70s...80s, and I liked the true antiques even then. Bristol is so distinctive, well done and beautiful glass, I've never been able to figure out why it isn't more popular. The forms and decorations on it will fit into pretty much any decor. Those busts there were all fantastic, but the two-tone one was spectacular! A collection of those would be like having your own museum.

@@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS I believe much of the best of true antiques are already in collections and period homes. My question is why they aren’t coming to light more with the passage of time. I find them occasionally in places you’d expect, but the sunbelt seems now to be lacking. I think you really have to sell fine antique interior shops these days
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

@@TheAntiqueNomad I can believe that. I knew a couple, (both are now deceased), that had a massive Edwardian house, with 12 feet ceilings, completely filled with amasing antiques. High Victorian Period furniture - like beds that the headboards were 10 feet tall - a complete 12-pc Belter parlour set - amasing glassware - unbelievable clocks, (one of her favourite things) - an unreal collection of Aladdin kerosene lamps, (one of his favourite things) - Victorian hanging kerosene lamps - Sevres porcelain, etc. The lady of the house, like me, also really liked the more distinctive, HTF pieces of Goofus Glass, and she had an OTT collection of it. We used to banter back-and-forth about which pieces we were going to "steal" from each other 😂 Even after they both died, a few years ago, none of it ever showed up for sale. I'm guessing their children are holding onto all of it. I've never seen where even the house has been offered for sale. The things they had are things you simply don't find easily...or at all...these days. If the generations of younger people are recognising just what true antiques truly are, they might be deciding they are worth holding onto. There are some vintage items that interest me, but they have to be, at least, 50 years old, for me to call them vintage. Half the age of a true antique is what I consider vintage. There are _a lot_ of items that fall into that age-frame that I really just do not like, though, since that does include the 1960s, 1970s and onward. I grew up seeing a lot of that garish stuff, and I didn't like it even then. I will have to say, though...I did like bellbottoms and the stacked shoes 😜🤣

@@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS I’m thinking the same! We held an estate sale for friends with a Victorian home full of true antiques, it was in the historic home tour every year and all the neighbors with similar homes bought it all. Not one of those homes has had a sale in the decade since

Hi George! 👋I'm watching after hours! In your booth, I noticed the pastel Kodak sign. Your friend didn't go for that one? Another question, those beautiful framed art prints that I see in lots of booths and many videos. Are they taking those from ancient books and framing them? I know the ones in antique books have no print on back and were done on special papers as things to be cherished. I know a lady that lives in Italy and she gets books like that from the markets, she. Also gets a lot of old pieces of fabric, hemp, religious fabric such a s curtains or the old cloaks or gowns. She even gets lucky enough to get real gold spun trims those thick embellishments of gold fabric they would decorate the priests and alters with. She sells it in our crafting group because we use ephemera. I haven't done anything for years except in embroidery and I love getting those old fibers to work with. Lace, trims, the old linen and hemp is marvelous to embroider on.
