Long story how this came to me. Someone's neighbour gave it someone who gave it their friend who gave it me in 2004... not sure exact dates or who or why, but enjoy a vintage car trip including down Bawtry Road filmed from an adorable vintage car! Austin's and Morris' abound!

I like how the driver had the hindsight not to venture into Maltby, knowing full well it would remain the same in the future.

The bit that gets me is the row of poplar trees near to where Morrison s at Bramley is now. During the 70's we travelled to Filey a lot and when returning home, I could always tell we were near on the M18 because I could see those poplar trees. When I saw then again on this film, my heart skipped a beat.

Excellent video, was only able to place where I was once he got to Brecks roundabout and went back up Bawtry Road. It's a whole different world back then..

Surprised to see the modern style of road signs. These designs weren't introduced until 1965 and took a few years to be put into general use. The film must be around 1970, I guess.

What else did the photographer get for Christmas? Went from Bramley to Wickersley to the Brecks and back several times, with a sortie down Morthen Road. The title is Driving in Rotherham - he never got there. Very disappointing although we did see Wickersley School several times where my wife went and the Methodist church where we were married back in 1972. I lived at Hellaby, just over the M18.

Blimey, I've delivered around Rotherham for last 7 years and can't recognise any of these areas. Where does it start and end up? It's a great bit of history regardless. Thanks.

Starts at The Brecks going up towards Wickersley, then on to the M18 junction at Bramley/Hellaby and back again. Then a bit down Morthen Road.

@@jonnydavies6968 Fantastic info, thanks. I'll watch again. Would be interesting to see Hellaby when there was no Industrial Estate.

@@j4wn You dont actually see anything of Hellaby, cos the car just turns around at the M18 roundabout and come back to Brecks again.

I was a bus driver in Rotherham back in the 1970s. A fellow bus driver once told me that on his way back from Maltby he could always recover lost time on the Hellaby roundabout. If he was really late, he'd go round twice......@@jonnydavies6968

Think it was built waaaay before that tbh, its on a map from 1901. I think you can see it around 14:00 - 15:30? The road is completely different and there's no roundabout just a crossroads down to morthern etc

At the time this was filmed the Masons stood further back from the road. At 7:03 there is a lady in white standing next to the Masons pub sign. It was at about this time that I bought my first pint and it was in the Masons, the barman said you can have this one but don't come back for another. I was 15.
