I have these same speakers being driven by a McIntosh MC7270 and C 35 preamp. Long story short as I decided that was time to upgrade my speakers to full towers……listened to the new Sonnetos III and V and was not impressed to drop up to 10k US. Then listened to the Focal lines. Focal much more dynamic than the new SF. When I got home and played the Concertos I realized that they are superior in every way……and without powering my REL Stratat iIi sub.

Wonderful speakers Sonus Faber Concerto Home . . built on Italian concept. . even hours of listening . . I listened to 'Un Instant de Magia' Toni Sola Quartet and it gave me that natural sound, hearing even the breath of Toni on sax . . . . .Try to listen Saxophone Colossus Sonny Rollins 'St. Thomas' and you'll love more this Sonus Faber.

Bought a pair of Concertos with dedicated stands( a must) and driving them with Atoll SS100 watts . Added a small REL sub for the lowest octaves and couldn’t be happier. They really are amazing at reproducing all wind instruments especially saxophone and image like nobody’s business!! Highly recommended

I have buy this speaker used before 10 years . It plays with a DIY tube amp or with a Carver tfm 35. It is difficult to change it on 2021 because of his voice. It plays everything perfect but I believe that his highlights are with acoustic instruments like this recording or a solo of a violin or strings

These are the old ones. The new ones are nothing like this. The entire philosophy changed at Sonus Faber after Franco Serblin left. It was less focused on a rich midrange and more focused on A more linear airier presentation and truth be told they are not even close to the same anymore. The top top stuff is impressive don’t get me wrong but they lost their magical midrange.

@@Puroplatino I just started looking into Sonus Faber because of their history and reputation. Whoever took over seems to have effectively killed the entire brand. Am I wrong about this? I hope I am but unless something changes my opinion, I am moving on. Such a shame.

I have a pair of these in the walnut that I bought brand new in 1996 for a little over $2000 if I recall correctly. That’s close to $4000 in today’s dollars, if you go by the governments CPI inflation rate of 2.45% which is absolutely bogus. They are most likely closer to $5000 to $6000 in today’s dollars. They are wonderful speakers.

Beautiful sax sound, but the piano is slightly off in tone and dynamics.
@vvcv__00
@vvcv__00 5 жыл бұрын
Of course you're not going to get 'TRUE' piano dynamics from ANY speaker(s). Yes, maybe LOUD piano sound, but not dynamics. It's a very gross generalized comment you made..and I hope you're not being serious. Also, you do not mention the percussion's highly limited dynamic range. Why? Secondly, the piano is put 'behind' the sax on the recordings soundstage for a reason -I'll let you figure out as to why. You can also clearly hear that the sax is played (or recorded) with much more ambiance -thus, the sax sounds more 'alive'. Also, who knows how many times this KZfaq sound has gone through multiple low pass filters. Due to the pianos wider dynamic range, it will suffer the most from any compression. However, let us speak of tone, shall we? How could you possibly know the 'tone' of 'that' piano, in 'that' room, with 'those' mics? You just can NOT say such comments and have it mean anything. There is NO way you can know the correct tone of the piano, it is an impossibility. A simple angle reflections from two walls to the mic, can make tone change. But, then again, you probably have never played THAT piano. I hope you understand. It's like saying the moon is brighter in Spain tonight, than it is in the United States. There are almost limitless variables as to why you can not make such a comment. Does this give you an understanding, of the complexity, to say it has tone that is "slightly off?" I'm sorry J M Lathion, but your comment is based on nothing more than neutrinos zipping through your brain. If the following is incorrect, than ignore it. However, I doubt it, because I found you listed as an Analog Planet viewer. In all honesty, you sound like a typical audiophile making bold claims that they can hear this and that. Stop. Audiophiles contribute nothing to the 'act' of 'creation' or 'creating' music, but you all love to make yourself sound like you do and that you know a little something about 'everything' music... simply because you have a nice sounding system. Can you even hum concert 440?

@vvcv__00
@vvcv__00 4 жыл бұрын
@@RennieAsh Wow, so silly. Of course Rennie. Of course there are 'always' better ways to do something. Why point out the obvious?As opposed to being a typical internet rat, running around looking for a nibble, why not come up with your own point and argue it. Please, enlighten us with your grand ways to describe an instruments tone in a recording. Finally, give us that "better" way to explain an instruments' tone and dynamics that has a frequency range beyond that of a device rendering its recording. Then get on with the much more complex acoustical nature of trying to reproduce an instruments timbre/tone from a box that is a fraction of it's size -to say the least. Give us your argument as to what kind of sense it makes for someone to say "A instrument sounds slightly off in tone and dynamics", when that instrument is magnitudes larger, with volume to play along with a symphony and tone so rich that no other device can replicate it simply because it is made up of different 'stuff'. You can't even compare the tone/dynamics of an upright piano next to a concert grand which I'm almost sure was used in this recording. I'm not trying to be an ass to the OP, just trying to point out that phrases like that have people spending thousands of dollars on speakers only because someone states (especially if they're an audiozine writer) it is only 'slightly' off from the real thing. Sorry, but Rennie, enough of the bullshit, it's time for honesty in this industry. And I never said anything about not liking the speakers, or belittling audio gear, it's my favorite hobby which is near semi-professional. Yes, I would rather be in a recording session, or a live performance, but being able to put on a piece of art and listen to it is pretty amazing; and I enjoy it to a great degree. I also know what is being said when it reeks of bullshit.
@RennieAsh
@RennieAsh 4 жыл бұрын
@@vvcv__00 So you typed all that for what? The point is, you may get your point across better with a kind discussion instead of making out like you're the only one with a brain ;-) People describe the way things sound because it's not always feasible to have a live listening session. You can simply say that you don't believe it's accurate to say you can tell the piano is not in good tone via a recording like this, instead of being condescending towards the commenter. Anyway, I know it's useless to tell old guys to change their ways :)
@vvcv__00
@vvcv__00 4 жыл бұрын
@@RennieAsh1. Typed all that because 'young' people have yet to develop critical thinking to the point of developing any argument that lasts longer than a twitter post. 2. You are obviously here just to to express how sensitive you are about a subject you have little to no experience with, and are here just to throw pennies around as if they're gold. When you're an adult, and leave home, it's going to be difficult for you i'm sure. 3. Your last statement is truly from the mind of a very young person and simply hilarious. Really, it shows no thinking skills at all. But since you're about 12, I better stop talking with you now. Oh, and if you ever make it into college, take a lot of philosophy classes. It'll teach you how to discuss with reasoning which does not look like something on facebook or whatever social media you spend 90% of your day looking at. So glad I have a youtube ignore app! Go take a walk off the planet, and learn something as you're floating out there....and...ingnored!
