Vintage Story is a post-apocalyptic sandbox survival block-like game with Lovecraftian-like themes and a lot of lore. It's in early access and has a ton of options for how to play. It even has a thriving modding community and was built with modding in mind. It can get a bit overwhelming at times to try to undersdtand just how much there is available to you with this game so I've made this video (and others) to help you to understand from the basics to the advanced. If you enjoyed this video, be sure to like, comment, and subscribe if you also want to see more. This video was made using version 1.18.5 of Vintage Story.

For pie crusts, if you don't have any dough left, you can always cycle the topper with a knife! Also, if you have several identical cooked pies, you can usually get them to stack when you slice them even above the 4 slices from one pie! Also also, while pies can only be *assembled* on a table, you can put them down to slice them on any flat surface!

yeah, pie stacks to 32....but you'd be hard pressed to eat that much before it goes bad. but...8 or 12 for a long trek is great! no bowl, no crock just straigh up food. that when it's gone, you can pick up other stuff! it's the best.

As challenging as this game is, I’m surprised there isn’t a mechanic to make clean drinking water. That might be something they will add

small note with something that took me a bit to figure out when I started playing somewhat recently: the cooking pot is a bit picky with what goes in what slots in it. the first two slots determine what sort of meal it'll cook, the second two slots are for what's being added to that. Also, unsure if this is a bug or intended feature, but if you take a meal from a sealed crock and it still has more servings in it, it'll stay sealed. The seal only goes away once you've taken the last serving from it. You can also change the pattern on the top of a pie with a knife. personally, on my current base, my favorite meal to make a lot of and store away in my cellar is 2 red meat (from my pigs) + parsnips (they grow really well at this latitude in all seasons but winter) + pink apples or pears (though any fruit really works, those just grow best at where my base is). *very* filling and relatively well balanced. I also make a lot of cheese using salt that I trade iron to my friends for, and plenty of bread and pies

Funny trick with that sealed crock bit is that if you keep using that crock to store more portions of the same meal item, you can just keep cycling portions through the crock without ever unsealing it. Use 'til on last serving, refill crock, rinse and repeat :)

This is great work! I appreciate the way you format these videos and how you explain things really clearly in a pleasant, calming manner. The timestamps are also nice, though I watched the whole thing in one sitting, as these videos are joy to watch. I started playing Vintage Story last week and have been loving it - already put in 45 hours or so haha. I don't watch tutorials often, as I like to stumble into games and try to figure it out myself, but I do like looking at tutorials like yours when I want to see if there's something I missed with a mechanic I am already familiar with or if I get stuck on something. In this case, I was just browsing videos and this one was recommended to me and the quality thumbnail and overall aura of the video took me in. Gotta say, I don't regret watching this! I even learnt some new things I had missed - like oil lamps, soup and the meal bonus effects. Subscribed and looking forward to more videos from you :)

Hey, thanks for the video! Nice work! Just wanted to mention a minor detail. Sat isn't short for saturation, it's short for satiation. Satiation is how satiated your character's hunger is. How full/satisfied they are. An example of saturation would be more like how full of water a sponge is. Great video though, very helpful. :)

One of my preferred ways to do food for long-distance travel (maybe you have a friend a very long way away who you want to visit, or you're doing some ruins hunting): - 4-5 charred loaves of bread - 2-3 sealed crocks of whatever the most filling meal you can make is, as full as possible - 1 pie (obviously take a knife, and eat off this and the bread first) - cooking pot and other equipment for making food as you go if you're not confident you're bringing enough for the journey
@NipapornP

This uses 7 inventory slots! With just stacks of bread or pies, you need only 1-2 inventory spaces at same satiation. ;)

In summer, you are swimming in berries and red meat and will forget about food problems. In winter, you will start to stretch these leftovers far. The point of grain is to extend the short-lived food. Add a little bit of dough and suddenly your stacks of quickly spoiling meat and berries turns into long-lasting pies. I actually prefer the charred ones, as all the advantages of storage stack together. First winter I even added 32 firewood onto all my cooking pots to keep them hot, extending the food as long as I could.

i think i want this game to do nothing but cook. forget mining. LOL gosh i love me some in depth food mechanics. weird that meat and fruit cant be mixed in pies, classic mince pies which typically have dried currants in them or bread puddings would suit the game well.

FYI, for meat stews and porridges, you do NOT have to have the meat/grain in the FIRST 2 slots. As long as you have 2 slots filled with meat/grain it will work.

Thank you for your video! Its very odd for me to cook in the game. I have a few mods and i cant figure out which but every time i place meat in the pod, there is no note saying this create 2 servings or so at all. I can only cook over fire. :(

I'd like to think the extra 50 points of saturation from the water comes from all the minerals and single celled organisms that are in the water.

Took me way too long to realize that you can throw in more than one thing into the pot, let alone secondary ingredients. I think the handbook could be improved on that because I was really struggling to understand the point of meals and generally how to stay satiated if you only get so little out of it, as it kinda makes it sound like you can only put up to two items in there. I also could not figure out how to get water into the pot for soup. I tried putting it into the slot but it didn't do anything. Also, if I eat a meal out of a bowl, does it only eat as much as is needed to top off my satiation?

The cooking aspects of Vintage Story is like... If Tinkers Construct was a cooking mod. Which honestly, that's ANOTHER mod that would fit this game. Course re-balanced, like maybe instead of using lava to power directly it you need some heating transfer methods. Like Metal plates under the ENTIRE base of it, with a pipe connected in the center of it going down into the ground. If surrounded by coal in an enclosed space and IGNITED, it would gather enough heat to melt metals on mass. While later upgraded pipes would be able to handle lava temps. More lava the hotter it can be, while also preventing said lava from cooling.
@thesteelrodent1796
@thesteelrodent1796 Жыл бұрын
VS already has a bunch of metal melting mechanics which are very similar to how it's done IRL. Tinker's Construct is very unrealistic - it fits with the way Minecraft does things, but for Vintage Story, which is trying to do things the realistic way, Tinker's smelting system doesn't work.

I feel like I suck at this game. I've never had an abundance of food to need a crock or a cellar. Im rarely full, average about 50% saturation. I just entered copper age. It takes forever for berries to grow and Im trying to make compost but you need rot and I never have anything extra to compost. What am I doing wrong? Also, my home is a hole I dug and put a thatch roof on top. It does the job, but I would like to build something nicer. How do you retrieve wood when it only stacks to 16 and the forest is filled with wolves and bears. Like seriously, there is at all times 2 bears and 4 wolves in the forest and loads of bones. I have a wicker chest filled with bones next to a hole I dug I can jump over if I fet chased. Im really enjoying the game and the tutorials, any tips from anyone are welcome.

Stay out of the forests. Travel. The more you move around the more foods you'll find. Try planting crops. Build pits or trenches to lure the wolves or bears into (careful, bears can climb up to 4 blocks) and then just stab them from above. I made more videos that show some of this. Good luck!
