Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. While our builds will all (or at least mostly) be in the desert, we are not restricted to hot and arid climates for the purposes of gathering materials and resources.
This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

I do like the double watching. I didn't think I would. But you get to enjoy it more the second time around. And see things you didn't notice the first time around.

Hey that's great! The intent is to publish both the VOD for folks who like big Vintage Story meals all at once, and then cut it up into these episodes for folks who like smaller bites. If you enjoy both, then go for it! :D

Thank you so much for making videos out of the livestream! I had a 2 hour drive (Bringing 6 kids home from spring break at the beach) and missed most of it. I can't wait for the next one! But at least I didn't miss anything this time! Again thank you for your work!

Omg yes! Andesite looks AMAZING in VintageStory... sooooo much more blue tint to it than like in the "Other Block Game" where it's super gray and just the tiniest hint of, ooh right there's no blue... its just gray, lots and lots of gray!!! While I kind of hate the lack of color in VS, well we got color but it's not nearly as vibrant nor expansive as the Other Block Games massive pallet of colors.

This series should be called things that happens behind the scenes of a Vintage Story Guide Series series. It's very interesting that the jump cut monologue pays off into just walking in silence. Do you already have a style of temple in mind and are willing to share in the comments? I'm hoping that you'd try to make a balinese-styled temple, but got a strong feeling that it would be either egyptian or mesoamerican. Anyways, I'm so glad to see that you seem to manage to transition to stream quite well. Hope this series gets you to your next YT milestone!

You're so lucky with finding stuff. The vessels are very helpful in the beginning and they look beautiful. I'm very curious what you will build. I'm sure it will be great.

I'm looking forward to doing some serious building, myself! As for finding so much stuff--this series has the BetterRuins mod installed, so there are TONS more ruins, and most of them have somewhere between 5-20 times the loot you would find in a normal Vintage Story ruin!

@Kurazarrh I think I will do some digging first. 🤣 With my luck there will be nothing, but who knows. I know the ruins with the teleporter, btw. I built my latest home exactly opposite, in a granite biome, but my computer crashed and I lost it. It was a beautiful world, I liked it a lot. The first time I got to iron in a reasonable time. I watched your videos... 🤩 The next world I ended up in a biome .. Don't know what it was. A patchy world. ,Everything at once. I stopped at a big ruin and explored it. There was a trader, but there were signs of a big fight and lots of locusts. Dead and alive. I could not even loot this ruin. I looted a bit, mostly building materials, but at some point they overwhelmed me. Too many. I still settled there, if you count it all in it was a good place. Lots of mushrooms around the ruin, I had no food problem there in the middle of a desert. Strange ... I tried to hunt gazelles, but I had the same problem. They are too shy. One wrong move and they are gone. Reminds me of something ... Gone. Maybe the wind? Maybe I should eat mushrooms instead? Don't try this at home... Don't ride this lizard, it is... wicked. I have it on my shoulder. Keep your enemies closer than your friends. It's safer that way. It can't see anything. The tattoo artist fucked it up. It's too low. Maybe I should do the snake next to it? 🤣 To take care of the kids? Would that help? This tattoo is not what I wanted it to be. It needs repairs. I will alter it, at least it has to be a real lizard. The king is ... nothing but a clown. I'm afraid of caves - and the dark, I forgot that. VS reminded me, in a very personal way. It is very hard for me to enter caves, I hate them. They feel like mazes, and I hate mazes too. I know they can be helpful, they lead to destiny, but sometimes ... often .... it's just dark. And scary. And drifters. It's nice that Tyron & Co had fun. I don't. I really loathe them. VS is the best survival game when the sun shines. In the dark ... not so much. People who trust nobody for good reason and don't ask for help... Primal fear. The deep, mazes, the dark where the monsters are. They scare me. Deep water? I hate you. May Cathulhu teach you how to treat your strange offspring. Just leave them be, they will learn on their own. They will find a way. Dogs help a lot, he was a good teacher, butä the dog is long gone. My mother made him go away. He broke her arm, but it was her own fault. Dont't move if a friendly animal charges you. They won't harm you. She did. Turned and he was confused. And he payed the price. She always hated him. Because I loved him. My black demon. He taught me not to fear the dark. Turned out he missed the caves. There are no caves where I live. There are caves in my live, but he could not follow me there. Barbarossa. My father was born on the foot of that mountain. I wonder if the ravens still fly. I had enough of the dark in real life. I too put a light into every corner, try to avoid the dark. Some monsters are real. Maybe I should try again to enter the deep caves. Sometimes you find treasures. Last time I chickened. And ended that world. I found iron and forgot the wheel. I never dared to go there again. Nightmare drifters with cloth armor? No way. I started a new world. With a teleporter right in front of my nose, thanks to better ruins. And it crashed after I built the windmill. I was proud of my build. I'm not good at building in 3d, but your videos taught me a lot. I felt much more confident, and my last built was much better. Not a mud hut for ages. That was after the previous game stole all my lumber. Don't know what that was. I came back from a journey and all the wood was gone. I built your blacksmith from your first season. With a high tower and tons of oak. I liked that too. I found a dead forest not far away and cut a lot of oak, enough for that build. To see it all gone was devastating. It is still somewhere, but I was done with this world. It was too painful. And then I discovered an old game... The white wolf. And I got stuck. So many decisions, so many memories... Too busy to play games 🤣 Love. 🥰

Sometimes - maybe everytime - the shiny things find their way to a new home. Sometimes it's a gravestone. Sometimes it's somebody else who takes the crown. It just takes some time. In my DnD game I buried all the tools and escaped the daddy issues my DM constructed for me. I cut the bond, a blood oath does'nt scare me anymore. As a druid level 13 I don't need tools. I can survive naked, if nessecary. Blood bonds? I command elements, blood is nothing compared to that. 🤣 I can send them to hell, I just need a fork worth 250 gold. I will ask my companion what he values his favourite fork. No time for the games of my DM. He will hate me, but who cares. We will have fun and he has to play along. He will recover, he always does. He likes to play and he is better at losing than most. I move away and I have to end my path. And I will go in style after 5 years.

I've had an idea about the Mini Map... Back when I played a crapton of SevTech:Ages MC Modpack they had a system that I really liked and I think would work brilliantly for VS. You start out with no map, you have to craft your first "Atlas" that was "tan-scale", like the VS non color map. It was easy to craft with a handful of basic early stone age technology. About 1/3 through the mod packs progression you hit the Industrial Age and got started on steel production and more mechanical automation. Around this age you were able to finally craft a full colored mini map and no longer needed to carry the Atlas book on your person to have a mini map. Once again much later on in the modpack when you get into the computer tech, you were then able to craft a new map, but this time it basically fully unlocked the mini map mod in the pack and gave you access to all the fancy features. It really did suck to have a crappy tan-scale map for quite a long time, but boy ooh boy was it an amazing feeling to unlock a full color map. That would be such a great addition to VS... like maybe it would require some tin plates, some glass and some rusty gears or a temporal gear to craft a colorized map upgrade... simply use the item, similarly to a temporal gear to set spawn, and upon use the item is consumed and your map magically becomes colorful...

I think it's an interesting idea, but it might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for a lot of folks who just want a minimap. Personally, given that we already have both parchment and pigments, color maps should be a relative no-brainer. Though I think pigments should be available from some traders (malachite and cinnabar are not currently for sale to my knowledge).

there is a mod that lets you make most of the clay stuff without the forming. it costs a bit more clay and other materials.. BUT saves a ton of time.
@Kurazarrh
@Kurazarrh 4 ай бұрын
I'm familiar with it, yeah. I'm not sure I'll use it, though. I'll just try to do my clayforming in bite-sized pieces and get the molds done over time. Since we don't need much in the way of crocks, at least that issue should be obviated!

Yes as you said, for the Rivers Mod to work properly you need to very specifically finaggle the terrain settings otherwise the mod basically does nothing...

An idea you could do is make it so the temple has windows, BIG windows, on the side looking over the lake, and either not very many, or their very small, on the other faces. You could maybe also do some modification to the one teleportor structure and have it be backdrop on the other side of the lake from the temple. Also, there are two weird tower/pillar things on two mountains over in the direction of the Teleportor spire, one way off to the east, and the other is off to the south. Both show up on screen intermitadatly ~the 32 minute mark onwards to about the 40 minute mark when you sent back the other way. Last of all, there appears to be something funny with one of the hot springs. It LOOKS like there is a trader cart plopped in the middle of one. Which doesn't make sense unless they can spawn there.
@Kurazarrh
@Kurazarrh 4 ай бұрын
Great ideas! As for the trader, those certainly can spawn in the middle of water--even hot springs! Which does make them a bit dicey to get to!

the auto sift mod you can edit the json file to change it to whatever number you like.. i go with between 3 and 5 on my servers. i will pan 10 blocks and see the average its giving me. then use that.

The thing in Vintage Story is that if he did place sand underneath the fences in the water, the crops wouldn't be watered as in VS, the farther away you are from water, the less moisture that crops get. I could be wrong tho 😮

why are people saying "that other block game" instead of just saying the name Minecraft. i am legit asking. Is there some legal reason or are other Vintage Story content creators doing it because Radamant does it?
@Kurazarrh
@Kurazarrh Ай бұрын
*Gasp!* You said The Word! Noooooooooooo! ;) Nah, nothing legal, it's just a community joke (not started by Rhadamant) that we don't say the other block game's name... As if it's some kind of curse word. But also it kind of acknowledges just how big that other block game is--you don't even need to say the name, and people know EXACTLY what you mean.
