I'm still not used to vintage story, so the way people haphazardly knap stone gives me so much anxiety. In TFC you could accidentally take off too much material when knapping or molding clay and it would just ruin the materials and you had to start over. This is so much better, and physically interacting with the voxels in the game world is a much more engaging way compared to just a UI, but it still unsettles me lmao

Smithing works that way, if you misclick you can pretty quickly screw up your project, but with knapping and clayforming there's forgiveness

@@GentlemanBrawler There were a few precursors to Vintage Story, the original mod was called "Vintage Craft" and it's still on CurseForge if you wanna take a look, it was essentially a cut down version of TFC. A lot of other mod authors also joined in Vintage Story development and added their Minecraft mods to the game, like the butterfly mod author for MC who joined and is the reason why we have butterflies in Vintage Story now

Having done medieval re-enacting with both candles and oil lamps, oil lamps are actually brighter! Candles just take up less space, so it's easier to have more of them in a small area (i.e. a candelabra). But, when it's the end of a long day and I needed to take my contacts out, one oil lamp was preferable to dealing with two or three candles. Considering how dark it is at night, so you can't get anything done outside, making clay and knapping new tools looks like a good evening activity to do safely inside the home. Personally, I like how you're adding the clay bit by bit around the edge of the pot; it's a good replica of how you actually make a coil pot. Although I do wish the game made you sleep, like having an energy bar as well as a hunger bar. There really ought to be a limit to the amount of stuff you can do in a day, and more intense activities, like hunting, should take more energy than activities where you just sit, like making pottery. (Which would also make knapping and pottery a good evening activity because they use up little of your remaining energy.) You'd also have the risk of exhausting yourself to the point you pass out and you are at the mercy of wild animals and the elements. (But maybe there's a mod for that?) But still, I'm getting more and more interested in this as you play it. I love historical-themed gameplay and resource management. Hoard all the things!

To clarify, PETRA is latin for "Rock". the black earth Rhad is referring to in the game is Terra PRETA which is the Portuguese word for "Black", hence why it's Brazilian (as they speak Portuguese there) and the black earth is what the amazon rain forest grows on.

When you add extra clay voxels you dont need and then promptly reduce the size of the voxel tool to trim the extra voxels back off you dont get the clay back, so beware if youre low on clay. I always stand right on top of the project and hold 'ALT' to free float the cursor so its more precise than when your camera is tilting back and forth to move around the project. Also, keepIng the torch in your offhand increase food consumption, IIRC. Food is so rough at the beginning of the same. I always take all the berry bushes up when i find them and make a massive berry grove by my home. It also attracts rabbits for some meat. Its always interesting to see how others play this game; theres so many ways to do it. 🤜🤛

The food based health mechanic is pretty cool. I've never been a fan of having to eat in games like these. It just seemed pointless. It's just a bar that you had to keep up that had no practical benefit. Tying it in with your maximum health makes the food feel like it's actually worth your time. It would be even better if the better nutrients also affected other aspects. It shouldn't make a huge difference, but if being better fed made you run slightly faster, allowed you to mine slightly faster, and etc, that would be super cool.

It's quite common for a world to have no limestone/chalk/marble near spawn (and by "near", I mean a few tens of thousands of blocks), not a bug at all. Your choices are to explore until you find some (which can take real-world hours), or use the alternate sources of lime. GUI tip: pressing spacebar when in map view will center the map on your current location.

@Rhadamant 7 ай бұрын
In my test realm I installed a mod to scan for limestone, chalk, marble, etc. There was none, anywhere within like 25000 blocks or whatever I set the maximum search parameters. 100% of the map gen was granite and andesite, with absolutely no sedimentary stone anywhere.

The voxel-based crafting is pretty cute, but i feel like it needs better "drawing tools", lines mostly. Or even some kind of auto crafting system where you only point your cursor in the vague direction of the missing pieces and the game does it automatically. I haven't played the game or seen any later footage, so maybe that's an upgrade or a skill point system that does just that. The idea that crafting takes time and has multiple stages is good, but the execution feels lacking.
@Rhadamant

looking at how this works, it seems a lot like terrafirmacraft (TFC), which was a more realism inspired minecraft mod. mostly realistic in how progression works, and using a game version of the same realistic methods. the clay forming with the adding/removing small blocks is the exact same as TFC and, putting formed clay in a pit filled with straw/sticks then putting it on fire to use as a kiln is how they did it back in the 'old days' and is also how it worked in TFC. I get the feeling like this was either made by the devs from TFC, or that these devs actually used TFC as inspiration for their mechanics. edit: upon googling, it's option 2, devs took inspiration from TFC :p

Hello, I'm new to your channel, thank you for these enjoyable videos. Looking at the comments here and your replies to them, it feels like "Yup" is code for "You broke one of the rules in the description, but I still want to engage with my fans"
@Rhadamant

You're basically right, if I actively engage in comments I've requested not to be made ( like backseating or spoilers ) I'm inevitably encouraging the behavior. I also get that this is KZfaq and people aren't going to bother reading the description nor should I expect them to respect the rules I've requested so chastising them is rather unproductive. The best thing I can do sometimes is just acknowledge their comment with a 'yup'. Also there are so many comments that are completely identical to one another, like 50+ people have made the same comment of "OH THIS ISN'T A MINECRAFT MODPACK" or something to that degree. Right from the onset of the series I explain what the game is and in the description I do it again, replying to comments like that are just simply tiresome.
