G'day! In this video I begin the restoration of a 1983 Tamiya Frog. This was going to be only one video, but it will be too long so I've made this the disassembly video Part 1. Then in a day or two the Frog will be finished in Part 2, so stay tuned!
Thanks for watching.

Wow this brought back memories! I had a Tamiya Frog as a kid. My brother still has his grasshopper.

All these old rigs are really cool. The only RCs I had as a little kid were really cheap ones with no proportional controls running on a couple AA batteries. It would of been so amazing to of had a Tamiya as a kid!

I hear ya mate! The closest I had to a real RC was a Nikko Sand Eagle C5 when I was 12 (I think), which I'll do a video of one day. It ran on 4 AA's and 4 D's and it was sloooow! lol. I bought a second hand Grasshopper when I was about 14 with money from odd jobs n stuff... The rest is history. 😁👍

I think that's exactly what will happen to this one. I've already had the diff clicking on the bench, so I took it apart and added a shim. Also lowered the rear around 5mm to help level the axles. Hopefully it lasts for a run or two at least *fingers crossed*. 🙂👍

Thanks! Congrats, that's awesome. The Frog is a classic that's for sure. I'm glad they (kind of) addressed some of the issues the old Frog had, such as the drive shafts. 👍

with the msc you could run a wire to a jst plug then to the switch and to the receiver for power dont worry about the 4aa battery if u know what i mean u have a great work shop mate looks like u have every thing there tops great video

I kinda wanted to keep it as original as possible, AA's and all as much of a pain as they are. Many years ago we used to run power from the MSC using a 1w Zener diode, without the diode a lot of the old receivers didn't last very long on 7.2v. 👍

11:15 Try hydrogen peroxide to clean the frame. Soak it for a day in the sun light in a clear plastic container.

Rear Wheels - where did you get those? I was thinking of restoring a Jet Hopper and they look similar.
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 3 жыл бұрын
These wheels are from the re-release Frog and also for Hornet. Sorry to say but they're far too big for a Jet Hopper. I'm also looking for some for my Jet Hoppers as they're almost turned to dust. 😥

Hi, Love your Tamiya build content and want to see lots more!! definitely takes me back to being a teenager and inspired me to get back in to Tamiya after a long adult break. Could you tell me what type of electrical connectors you used for the wiring repairs on the speed control etc. After watching this build series I have bought a vintage Frog and it must have been the brother of yours. A lot of the wiring will need to be tidied up and I am certainly no guru when it comes to wiring. So any help in what to buy there will be greatly appreciated. Once again great video love how you made her look sexy again 👍

Thanks. There will be much more Tamiya coming! There's still so many I wanted as a youngster but never had, so I have years of making up to do. lol. I actually took some wires off another speed controller for this one but for the spade connectors I just have a cheap assorted set from ebay. They have 2.8 mm which I use for Tamiya speed controller resistors, the 4.8 mm and 6.3 mm sizes can be used for motors or speed controllers with larger connectors like the Boomerang and others. The sets are around $12aud. I soldered the motor wires in this case but I'm pretty sure the Tamiya bullet head connectors are 4mm and ebay have generic branded ones for around $9aud for 50pcs. Thanks for watching, good luck with your resto! 🙂👍

@@RCHobbyShed Thanks so much for the information on the spade connectors. Will make things a lot easier for me to find. Yes I think most of us 40+ year old's wanted all the Tamiya cars as youngsters and couldn't for one reason or another. I have had a re-re wild one sitting in the cupboard for like 7-8 years and a grasshopper sitting for a few years that is %90 complete for my daughter. So after watching you videos it gave me a kick up the backside and got me back in to it so thank you! Look forward to more great content from you 👍
