Just bought a used Stanley Yankee screwdriver; I've never come across one before but I've given it a test and I really like it. Better than the rubbish coming out of China today!

I saw them used up to and into the late 80’s. Basically before decent cordless became an option. Lovely tools.

I have a stanley one (like the small one) and a Marples and Sons (like the large one, but with the kurled wheel like the small one.) My favourite flathead screwdrivers. Great tools. Easily as good as most modern ratcheting screwdrivers.

Technology has always been around since the beginning of humankind. Anything made to increase productivity or increase value of life, is considered tech - fire and the wheel are tech! Fun fact! LOL

“North Brothers Manufacturing” or “North Bros” developed the yankee in the early 1900s (maybe late 1800s) and Stanley bought them in the 40s (46?) they still had North bros and Stanley on them for a while. Then eventually just Stanley. Craftsmen made a yankee too. Don’t know anything about that.

The larger one was the same as my fathers (b1921-d1999), and I’ve still got a thick brass pipe with a spiral screw driver one way only and no other details. Nice walk down memory lane.

I would guess 50’s. I have a couple of those old Yankee push drills- they’re nifty old tools. Those ratcheting screwdrivers would look great if you redid that varnish

I’m tipping if your grandfather was a sparky she’d have no idea how to use them either
