Yep. Exactly the same experience. I got a custom made 50s style wiring and ditched the out of phase wiring. Too much pissing around with the volume pots trying to get a balance. Mine is a really early one in the Icon series. Although the neck is thinner than the guitar it is supposed to be modelled on, it is quick. With the volume pushed on a good valve amp it does what it says on the tin.

Yeah I picked up one of those PG models....very nice..a little heavy but sounds good I put some Classic 57s in mine but still might go with some Lollar A2 low winds maybe But hey might try the pot and caps first and see if it does the trick I actually reversed the PG modd back to stock LP wiring And for chuckles I ordered one of those Oscar Shmidt Gold Tops and was going to decide which one I want to invest time and money in The 1st one they sent me had some issues,I had to jack the bridge up all the way and it still fretted out at the 1st fret so sent it back for a replacement Vintage has a one piece neck where as the OS has a 2 piece and thats a pretty big deal for LP type guitars Im thinking the Vintage will probably win out but will see and will keep you guys posted..

I did that with my V100, replaced the capacitors too with mojotone paper in oil caps and the combination of the new pots and caps REALLY opened up the guitar. Didn’t replace the hardware on mine, it’s all quality stuff

Vernon Robinson I'd say Epiphone tbh. Gibson guitars use better timbers but this is down to taste I suppose. But yeah vintage guitars are great and are better than Epiphone

It is a far better headstock than the Epiphone Les Paul's, it could easily be made to look more like the Gibson open book by sanding down a couple of the wave tops.

I agree. I just hate it that they couldn't just get the headstock shape "right" from the beginning. It'll grow on me. Especially for the price vs value comparison. This is a great looking and sounding guitar.

There's a reason why they didn't get the headstock quite right and that the horn is a lot sharper and that the access to the neck at the high end near the neck pickup is different (its actually an improvement and more ergonomically sound) and the arch near the toggle switch is more arched. This is all done on purpose. JHS Vintage did this to try and protect themselves from being sued by Gibson because they can use these changes to prove it isn't a straight counterfeit in court. That didn't stop Gibson however but they lost the first part of the court case in the UK earlier this year that it was a straight counterfeit. The second part of the case is still ongoing that JHS V100 guitar design has infringed the copyright of the Les Paul design.

no need to reverse it just turn one of the volume pots down a squigee and it goes back to normal try it

Gibson are not worth the money especially with the single piece of wood neck design which breaks so easily. Much better, like these guitars, to have a scarfe joint, its a cheaper method (allows the use of 2 pieces of wood instead of one)and much stronger.

I had the latest version Epi Les Paul Standard PRO with Probuckers and the Vintage. I sold the Epi and kept the Vintage. The Epi was OK but I'm not the biggest fan of coil splits so that wasn't a consideration for me, but I really didn't like the D shape neck. And of course it didn't have the out of phase sound of the Lemon Drop which I absolutely love.

i have a epiphone les paul 56pro it's a fantastic guitar p90pro pickups fat neck even though it's a good instrument I'm gutting everything apart from the pickups and the tailpiece.

I am gettin this or the afd but its hard to pick

650Thunderbird Vintage makes their 'versions' heavier (4,3 kg here), neck heel is different too.. both makes them feel different. otherwise they are pretty close in every term

My SC550 is over 4kg (not sure how much over, no digital scales here), despite having weight relief.

+Alessandro Giangio the confusion is real.. for me too! and thomann specs lists are often faulty too. i cant really say, but they should be the same. i had both guitars.. the lemon drop in 2015.and i would say they sound the same. i cannot believe that they used ceramic on any of them.. wouldn't sound that bluesy i guess (?) so imo same pickups

Mike, compared to guitars under €1000 this is prossibly the best there is. Far better than Epiphone and as good as €1000 Gibsons (maybe even better). I would suggest that it is even better than Tokai's. It has a real LP weight 9 lbs/4,2 klilos.

You maybe right about it, i never play a Gibsons or Epiphone similar guitar. I bought it long ago around 2009/2010 because the company go for online sales and all the showroom models they sell them very cheat. I pay around €200 for the Lemon Drop (aging type) guitar. Btw is one of the guitar that i still play almost on daily base. It sound so lovely and especially with tube amp. Thanks for the very good review.

This guitar is much better than the Harley Benton.

Harley Benton is much better than the Vintage. The quality is pretty much the same, guitars sound-wise are bit too different to make a direct comparison, the biggest difference is the price.

The Vintage is more expensive because its better finished and has better pickups, but it also plays better. The out of phase sound of the Vintage isn't to everyone's taste, I agree.

No, it's more expensive because ther are more peple who you have to play for. Harley Bentons are directly sold by Thomann, Vintages have to be sold to music stores before they reach the customers. There's a middleman and more traveling cost that have to be covered. Vintage can't have better pickups because both are Wilkinsons. Actually, HB is moving on from Wilkinson pickups due to QC issues. I doubt that Vintage plays better, because HB has better fret access. Finish is pretty much the same, mahogany body with maple top and maple veneer.

If you are a fan of Peter Green,which I am, the out of phase sound is essential and this Vintage recreates it very well, but you do have to juggle the tone and volume controls for the optimum sweet spot. I use it all the time.
