That's best vintage sound out of a VV I've heard.

I think it's all in how you voice it. Some VV's sound more wurli-ish and others more dyno-ish.

@@ChristianBurrola May be. Also keep in mind that this is the passive version of the Vintage Vibe piano, without the pre amp. The way you record and mix the sound of the piano also makes a difference.

First time I heard a VV voiced to 'properly'. The guys at VV work miracles, their pianos are amazing. Just the way they voice Rhodes and VV, too metalic and Wurly sounding. This is comparable to a late Mark II or Mark V.
@ChristianBurrola4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, if I want a wurli I'll get a wurli. I want my rhodes/vv to sound like a rhodes.

Asen, you are incredibly talented. I enjoy all of your playing that I hear. I have one question: how does the Valente Piano compare to the Vintage Vibe Piano?
@DoykinMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The VV piano has more responsive action. I think it is just a better instrument as a music instrument . But then it is twice as expensive . That being said , the Valente piano is great electric piano with unique character.

Superb playing! You have a great touch and sense of dynamics, the video really shows what this fine instrument is capable of. Maybe it's more subtle than any Rhodes ever was... I'm seriously considering getting one of these for gigs. If you don't mind me asking, what do you use for a case? How do you transport it to performances safely?
@DoykinMusic6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I use a custom made soft case from studioslips.com. I transport it to gigs with a car. It's still a little heavy, but totally doable by one person.
@CyberGene3 жыл бұрын
This is fantastic! I have serious GAS to order one from the US to Bulgaria, sight unseen. I really like the sound you achieved, so I guess the passive one is perfectly fine when recorded at home with proper plugins (I also use Logic). Is there any variability in sound between models, did you choose your in a store or you ordered it sight unseen? I know classic Rhodes pianos can be regulated for various types of target sound, either bell-like or a softer/vintage one and anything in between, depending also on hammers felt, etc. Did you request yours with a specific sound in mind or it's how they regulate them by default?
@DoykinMusic3 жыл бұрын
I didn't request anything specific when I ordered my VV piano. The action and responsiveness of the key bed is on a whole other level in comparison to the Rhodes. Recently I went to the VV factory for tune up and the master technician did some additional tweaks to the action and tines placement which improved the overall fell even further.
@CyberGene3 жыл бұрын
@@DoykinMusic I have no doubts the key bed in the VV feels so great. They take pride in their instruments and especially how they take care of regulating the action to standards that are close to an acoustic piano action regulation. I've played some beaten up old Rhodes pianos and they still felt great because a real action with hammers is a very expressive thing. It would be a bit risky to order a US product from Bulgaria, but on the other hand all people are praising it and I'm experienced in regulating piano actions, etc., so it won't be a problem for me to regulate and maintain it myself if needed. A bit of a shameless self-advertising here but I made my own DIY MIDI-controller from an old grand-piano action by installing optical sensors and microelectronics to it, check it out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bcV0h6h-mqfYYIE.html Thanks again for your answer and cheers! :)

Not really, sorry. To tell you the truth I composed this tune really quick on the day I decided to do this video, five years ago and then never played it again in other setting. I don't even remember it myself. I will have to go back to this clip and transcribe myself in order to recreate the composition and write a chart.

great playing and sound! i've also a 64 classic and love it. i consider upgrading on a 73-model, but when i see and hear you playing i think that 64 keys are really enough. what do you think about it? how did you amplify yours in this tune? great sound!
@DoykinMusic8 жыл бұрын
+1970piano Thanks. The size and weight of the 64 is perfect for me, since I take my VV piano to gigs. Playing in band setting I never feel the need for larger key bed. The 73 model is great too, the extra keys in the low register could be useful , but it gets too heavy and large for moving around. For this clip I plugged the VV piano directly to my Apogee Quartet audio interface and recorded with Logic and a few Universal Audio plug-ins.
@andrealentullo66618 жыл бұрын
amazing playing and sound! I'm thinkin of buying a VVP (maybe the 73 classic passive... but also the 64 is cool) to leave at home my Rhodes markII (toooo heavy, and needs restoration). sadly I can't try it because in Italy nobody knows the instrument. how do you amplify it in live situation? with a good preamp and some stompboxes or a multieffect do you think it can go direct? thankyou
@andrealentullo66618 жыл бұрын
thanks for your answer! ;-)
@DoykinMusic8 жыл бұрын
Thank you. For this recording I used the pre amps of my sound interface, Apogee Quartet. For life performances I use small guitar tube amp. It's sounds pretty loud and punchy. The bigger the amp the better, but then it gets heavy to move around the city for gigs. I use bunch of stomp boxes sometimes and it sounds great, but not for this recording.
@1970piano7 жыл бұрын
May i ask, which guitar tube amp you use for live performances with your VVP?

Great playing and great sound as well ! Well Done :) On this model (passive), you don't have any tremolo on it, but do you simply plug a tremolo pedal on it ?

Thanks! Yes, I plug in all sorts of pedals to the VV piano. In this particular case I used vibrato plug-in on my recording software.

No speaker or amp. Direct to my Apogee Quartet audio interface.
@robertjameson41014 жыл бұрын
Do you have to play one of these through a amp to get the gainey sounds? Or can that be achieved through a preamp into daw?
@DoykinMusic4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. In this particular recording I don't use an amp. I go direct to my Apogee audio interface . It's a matter of contextual preference. A tube amp can add punch, color, etc. It's just different.

Any chance you're selling your instrument? I'm desperately looking for a passive Vintage Vibe Piano...
@DoykinMusic2 жыл бұрын
Not for now, sorry. Interesting enough, I was at the Vintage Vibe factory last week and talked to Chris (the founder) about the passive VV pianos. Apparently they made only five like mine: 64 keys passive VV pianos, and then stoped making them. May be if you contact them they will do one for you by order, not sure.
