Ustad Amir Khan was the greatest and most influential Hindustani vocalists of the twentieth century. Ustad Amir Khan was born in a family of musicians in Indore. Ustad Amir Khan’s father Shahmir Khan, was a sarangi and veena player of the Bhendibazaar gharana. He served at the court of the Holkars of Indore. Ustad Amir Khan’s grandfather, Change Khan, was a singer in the court of Bahadurshah Zafar. Ustad Amir Khan sahib had an intellectual's approach to Hindustani music while always managing to bring out, with great sensitivity, all the emotive aspects of a raag.
Gangubai Hangal also called Gangu Bai, originally Gandhari Hangal, Indian vocalist in the Hindustani classical tradition and doyenne of the Kirana gharana. Gangubai Hangal was born on March 13, 1913, Dharwad, in India. She was especially admired for her performances of songs of the khayal genre over the course of a career that spanned nearly seven decades. Hangal was born into a musical family. Gangubai Hangal’s mother and her grandmother were established musicians in the Karnatak.
