Watch as I sort through my vinyl record collection and decide which ones to keep and which to donate.

I really like this Gary Numan album! I also own a single of "We are Glass" and that brilliant Erik Satie cover, these 2 songs were included in the later reissues of Telekon. Well, I was listening to Devo's "Now it Can be Told" and I thought that after enjoying it for over 30 years...Now it Can be Sold, and that's what I did a few months ago...

I’ve been getting rid of records lately. I listen to each one and decide whether to keep it or not. I donated some last year. I’m now trading in at the record store or selling on discogs.

Music lovers keep the music they buy because they are fans! Collectors are the ones who purge! Hey, keep on doing it & driving the price of new & used vinyl up because the CD market is loving that you guys! Fans are turning back to CD’s again!

Always fun to revisit stuff that has been sitting on the shelves unattended to and giving them a new listen. Can bring back some cool memories. A lot of those lPs remind me of KROQ back in the day. Fun times. BTW Love the backdrop!

@@djstephwest That's so cool. When were you listening? I was primarily listening 78-84 before I moved to the Bay Area and then it was pretty much KUSF and KALX. I feel those were the golden years with Rodney at night and a little more freeform for the DJs during the day, before it fell into a pretty regimented playlist. Hard to blame them, they found what worked. Still, those were exciting times for a teenager! Glad to see you're still spinning that stuff and sharing it! I still love it! Peace.

Hi Stephanie. THe Nylons are a Canadian a capella band. That is a great album. Sadly, three of the four members have passed away! Ohio Express - great '60s Bubblegum Pop! I love Gruppo Sportivo but that is not my fave album by them (Buddy Odor is a Gas). Still, has some good songs on it. I just did a video on The Rave-Ups, oddly enough. That's a keeper in my book. Gary Numan's Telekon is one of my faves by him, although it is a little darker than the two albums that came before it. That Lene Lovich mini album is a classic. "New Toy" was played on the radio all the time back then! And Thomas Dolby is on it!

I've never heard of the Teenage Zombie movie, but the bands listed definitely sound like a keeper. I made the mistake of purging that Simple Minds about a year ago. I have so many great records and so little time. Take care!

Enjoyed your video! I sometimes battle having to get rid of records. I do ask myself when was the last time I listened to it. Love the Gary Numan album. I love her voice in that band New Toy. Have a good week - Edward.

I used to love the Rave Ups. Still do actually. And Gary Numan is awesome. I’ve been to a few of his concerts too. You dont have to collect vinyl for over a decade to require a clean out. I have only been collecting vinyl for about 3 years and already have about 350 records. Problem is I started in the beginning to buy a lot of used records just to see if I liked certain artists. I took lots of chances. But I now realize I dont want to be one of those guys who have walls and walls of records and never listen to most of them. So I am very selective on what I buy now. And I think I too need to do a clean out of some of my early purchases. Fun video and thanks for sharing. Oh and just a quick fyi. I would personally have to keep the Miami Vice album. Just my two cents. But maybe thats just nostalgia from my youth talking. Have a terrific day.

The Nylons were an acapella group. If you enjoy that kind of music they were excellent!! They were from Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I can only think of about 10% of my albums that I would get rid of due to content or damage. But I'd copy all of them into computer files before unloading them.

I just recently was given a friends' record collection and it had a copy of Telekon amongst it...not familiar with all the records you showed but it seems you made some pretty reasoned choices. Glad you decided to keep New Gold Dream, thats' a great album.

I would absolutely keep the Ohio Express LP. They were among the forerunners of bubble-gum pop and anything by them and their label Buddah Records would be of historical value if not listening value! But that's just me.

Keep the Ohio Express album. It's a fun bubblegum record. Their big hits of that album you have is Mercy and Sweeter Than Sugar. They are most famous for Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. The Nylons are an accapella band accompanied by a drum machine and they are pretty good.

Nice video topic. I would keep Miami Vice. Cassette tapes were the dominant format in the 80s. CDs were just beginning to emerge. There are some good instrumentals like Axle F. The Heat Is On by Glen Fry also. 80s OG vinyl is getting harder to find. I haven't gotten rid of much except children's records. Glad you are keeping Simple Minds.

I'm glad you're keeping the Simple Minds. I wanted to thin out my collection back in the 90's. I had been collecting since '79. I quickly regretted selling off my collection of Simple Minds 12'' singles. What was I thinking!

I’m trying to avoid that type of regret. Did you ever repurchase any of the Simple minds records?

@@djstephwest Yes. I have two copies of New Gold Dream. One is gold vinyl with purple flecks. The other I just got a few days ago for $3 at the thrift store. Couldn't pass that up! Great condition. Sparkle in the Rain is probably my favorite. I have that on CD only. I also like Empires and Dance. Once Upon a Time isn't half bad either.

You absolutely, *ABSOLUTELY* have to listen to (get) Gary Numan's masterpiece Splinter: Songs from a Broken Mind & Savage: Songs from a Broken World. I don't know about you, but I frigg'n *LOVE* his more Industrial stuff. Also, the dynamics on Broken Mind particularly are amongst the most stunning out of all the records in my collection (2600+) As a bonus, if you haven't already, make SURE to check out his 2018 performances at Brixton here on KZfaq, the production and sound is bloody amazing!
