the old heavy tonearm has no resonances and so any micron in the groove is transfered to sound and not vibration!

I was stationed in Germany from 1983 to 1991. This was a big hit. I bought the maxi single. Commodores first hit after Lionel Ritchie left. Lionel gave us the dreaded Dancing On the Ceiling.😡😡😡 I did go to a bunch of record shops in Ulm Augsburg and Muchen and lots of concerts in Stuttgart and Munchen! Went to London a few times. There were plenty of record shops there too!!

Hi Lee! In my opinion ‘The Nightshift’ and ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ are equally great both production and recording wise. You might not (have) like(d) the style of Lionel’s 80s solo work or DOTC at least: to each their own. And yes, DOTC was massively more mainstream and a smashing hit worldwide. ‘The Nightshift’ was also but in a different way. It’s ‘a different cookie’ as we say in Dutch. It’s very instrumental, (the percussion 🥁 !, funky guitar 🎸licks, you name it) the reference to Marvin Gaye (and his message making it more or less political), it’s one of a kind if you ask me (please do :). DOTC on the other hand is just ‘fun and leisure’, a ‘make (almost ;) everybody happy track’. Simply put: to me the two are simply incomparable. So please don’t get me wrong, I come here often to listen to this wonder of a track played on this top notch 60s broadcasting German engineering wonder with a superb Dutch 70s Philips GP412 element to boot… A majestic combo! (Massive kudos to Schlippersloper!)☺️ At home I play Lionel’s DOTC (also the album title ) on my 1974 Philips GA312 turntable with the Philips GP422… no complains there! And JoY what you like, have a good one :) 🍀
