Viofo and Vantrue - power ground ignition and you must use selector switch on cable to determine low battery protection. Which will be hidden under the dash
Parking Recording Duration:
"On" means the camera will keep recording until the hardwire kits cut the power supply. "1 hour" means the camera will shut down after it gets into parking mode for 1 hour.

Vantrue does not have these settings, it is either on or off and will operate until low battery protection kicks in.
You can also leave this setting off and both units will shut off as soon as low battery protection hits.

I like the Viofo for it's option to pay less for the 2 channel version. I also like the parking mode timer, but to use that, I'd have to install their huge power pod and a cable running to the fuse box (Extremely difficult on my Audi S5), Currently, I have my A119 powered from the mirror supply with the voltage reducer inside the sensor pod / mirror mount. Since my car spends 95% of it's time in my garage, I can do without parking mode.

Agree! Vantrue has made strides but lacks in a few areas. A few weeks ago I said that the N4 Pro had similarities to the Viofo A139 Pro and appeared to be a copycat. For the price and the technology you get from a Viofo dashcam, other manufacturers are finding Viofo a tough competitor to beat. Sure, there are better dashcams/car cams provided you are willing to spend a few thousand dollars for it, such as a customized built-into the vehicle that is not just an added attachment to the windshield, People who spend probably $300K or more for their vehicle pay extra for the security and insurance purposes.

Having NO light could work as bait. How well do prowlers show up on a half-moon night? I see that this channel has done "blackout" tests, with the headlights off. Note that the VIIFO A139 has exposure settings that range from -2.0 to +2.0 .

I switched from the A139 Pro to the N4 Pro. I was having too many quality issues with my A139 Pro and as much as support tried to help, I was fed up. The interior and rear cameras stopped working after what smelled like the camera overheating (that was the last straw). For me, the N4 Pro setup was much more seamless, and it has a better app; it just feels much more fluid. The Viofo app often shows old or wrong thumbnails for videos, which was frustrating. I also noticed that Vantrue is using features of the Starvis 2 sensor that Viofo doesn't. At night with the Viofo I get blurred plated with oncoming cars, but with the Vantrue the plates seem to pop out with what seems to be some extra processing happening.

I had a Vantrue and I live in Texas it would shut down in high heat, so I tried the n4 and had it for 3 years in the same vehicle with no heat shut downs , and I so like having a display.

If your worried about vandalism. I would reccomend getting a battery pack. I would pick the Viofo a139 pro out of these 2 as it will draw less current

If you watch the video starting @25:00 you see the night shots. If you watch it slowly (frame by frame), you cannot read license plates or small road signs with the Viofo camera. Which the Vantrue you can get the important information. I watched the night time shots at 0.25x speed and that's when you can get the critical details or lack there of.

The Viofo HDR is also total trash, I am not convinced it is actually doing anything at all. First and foremost, these cameras need to be a witness.

Great in depth review! One thing missing is temperatures. How do the units handle high heat environments? I've read a few reviews saying the Viofo doesn't do well. Have not heard much about this particular Vantrue model yet.

I am not hearing that from my customers at all. It gets hot yes, but so do other dash cameras. The only issue I have seen in high heat is when using Auto Event Detection. In high heat parking mode I can make the dash camera freeze, however on Time Lapse and Low bitrate recording it will not. But I have tried asking people to show me the high heat complaints that are actually using a Viofo SD card and not another SD card and I am not hearing it. The reason I say this is because I have seen Thinkware and other brands fail in high heat with 3rd party SD cards. In the future I will be developing a way to test heat. I was looking into buying a heat chamber for testing but they are expensive.

I’m a Vantrue N4 user (just the regular version before the pro). This is a very in depth comparison, Thanks! A139 pro rocks! Do you know if the cameras keep their customized settings after doing firmware updates? The regular N4 defaults back to factory for some of the settings and I forget to change it until later.

On the N4 Pro is monitoring a mode you can select when parking. If so, why couldn't you just have it in monitoring when parked. It seemed like when in monitoring mode it woke up quickly and was able to capture footage early on.

@@nasafan2008 Having the N4Pro installed on Monday. What setting are you using on Parking Mode. I assume you used the hard wired harness that you can set a timer and power shutdown option.

I've had two of my three A139 Pros start having loop reboot issues. One is almost a year old and the other one is six months old. The six month old one took a complete crap today. I gave away the one working A139 Pro. As far as your collision detection issue it's a little bit of an unfair comparison for someone that uses the motion detection parking mode as I do. I have two of the three new N4 Pros hooked up and installed and they are working just fine in motion detection parking mode. Now to be fair, I do have my cameras hooked up to a hardware kit into the fuse boxes and users need to know the difference no matter which camera system they own. The VIOFO does have more options in the settings but I've found that the average user probably wouldn't even understand them or even use them. The VIOFO does not have a very user friendly interface, such as, manually needing to stop recording to access the settings menu or going to recordings, and back. Great video though. I hope your viewers take your information and user comments into consideration before they drop this kind of cash on a camera system let alone, two, or three.

I seen the loop boot and reboot challenge. We had 3 units go down from our June or July shipment. The collision detection is an issue when compared to Thinkware impact only detection mode. Thinkware is 1 second amd Vantrue is 6-13 seconds. Way to slow.

@@SafeDriveSolutions I just stick with high sensitivity motion detection in parking mode on my cameras. I know, it may be a little overkill and people may be concerned with battery drain but all of my vehicles are driven almost daily and they are hardware kit wired. The average person wanting to get a dashcam probably doesn’t understand what we are talking about. Your KZfaq channel puts out good content, keep doing what you’re doing.

The N5 advantage is can support rear interior recording, but the front cam can only support 2K without HDR. If you want to 4K recording, the N5 is not a choice, better to choose the N4 Pro or A139 Pro.

@@SafeDriveSolutions I've seen other reviews that show the A139 completely fails to capture license plate info at night (no actual HDR implementation?). In your own video you can see that as you pause when cars were passing you - the Vantrue seems to 'highlight' the license plate and does a much better job. Most of the other cameras also fail at night but it's not just for lack of having a Starvis 2 chip, it needs to be configured correctly

@@IntrepidRobot sure no dash camera on the market will capture every license plate at night. But some reviewers are misleading and place dash cameras in improper spots or do not place dash cams at same height on windshields bringing reflections in. I have tons of videos showing how it does at night with license plates. In this video I did not make the effort to show how it picks up plates at night. It is a lot of work testing new products and trying to make sure it is fair between both brands. But if you feel Vantrue has better night time capabilities. That is fine. I put these videos out and allow consumers to make their own decisions.

@@InquisitiveMind23 if you can see out of it your dash cam will to. At night you may have some challenges depending on the dash camera. What some people have done is used rainx on their rear window and also clean it frequently to try and keep it clean.

Benjamin, on your microphone test. Was that the internal microphone or the optional plug-in external Mic? I know the A-139 is capable of having an external mic. Also I'm curious to hear the sound quality difference of the internal Mic and optional external Mic mounted above the driver's door which would be closer to the mouth. Test the sound quality of a person standing directly outside the driver's door on both internal and external mic.

This was internal microphone on both units. I do typically use the external microphone. I did a test with external microphone quite a while ago. I will tell you it does not sound too different but it will pick up external conversation easier.

So this week I will be at AAPEX and SEMA show in Las Vegas. I will meet with Vantrue during that time. I told them to get me an N5 because people are asking. I am sure they will get me an N5. But they also want us to resell Vantrue. We will see what the future holds

Not sure. I got one from FineVu to test. I found an issue very early with app. Reported to them and I did not feel they were a company willing to listen to feedback so it is sitting on the shelf.

@@warrennielbumagat3988 first issue I found was if you plug unit and and start using it without setting time zone. Which most consumers will do. When you log into the unit to view videos it will not show you any of your recent videos because the time zone is out. So every other dash cam I sell and install. Even if time zone is out you can still view the videos. But on FineVu you can not. Instead of them realizing this was an issue, with their app. they just blamed me for not setting it up properly. I had talked to a couple other people who were testing their products and they found quite a few more challenges. Which I am not going to list here. So when i test dash cameras I do a few things. 1. I test it the way most customers would. 2. Then i go and set it up professionally like I would with all my knowledge. But I am not going to spend 20-30 hours of making recordings, editing, giving feedback to manufacturer on what I found if all they want to do is sell me a box. With Vantrue and this video here. I gave them very valuable feedback as to why we will not carry their product. But after some tweaks we will probably look at it in future. The main thing is they listened and loved the constructive feedback.

That was one of the challenges to figure out. Vantrue uses H.265 and Viofo uses H.264. File sizes were smaller on Vantrue. Hence having h.265.

The A139 image quality is just a little better than the N4. I bought both, updated the fw in the N4, but the collision recording is still too long at 5 seconds.

I dont have A139 regular. But I think in near future there will be a revisit. As I have in my hands new IROAD X30 to play with and a few other manufacturers have some new 2K dash cameras coming out….. stay tuned maybe late September

I would like of you do a video on the ultmate car camera system. Notice how i didnt say dashcam, because the market is over flooded with them. Given that you're more likely to be vandalized than in an accident , its time manufacturers start focusing all there resources on parked mode. Thanks .

The A229 Pro has fixed their firmware and seems to be operating well and has better video quality out of the rear. Similar quality out of the front

This is a great comparison of overall features and general image quality. I would have liked to see more license plate captures (especially at night)! However, after watching ‘The Hook Up’s’ comparison video I’m seriously leaning towards the Vantrue N4 Pro! That comparison included the Thinkware U3000, 70 Mai 810, VIOFO A129 & 139 Pro, Blackvue DR 970X, Rove R3 and GoPro Hero 11. The Vantrue’s ability to read license plates at night is significantly better than all the others! This was attributed to it’s utilization of the Clear HDR feature (which all the other dashcams apparently are not implementing). License plate image quality is my number one priority and parking modes are not important to me, so my choice is clear! I would like to get your take on Clear HDR? It genuinely appears to be game-changing tech for nighttime license plate captures!

Vantrue is not using Clear HDR. That is wrong information. I was told a bunch of KZfaq channels are giving wrong information.. Do you have a link to this video you are referring to? @@SafeDriveSolutions - While i don’t have a link, its a KZfaq channel called ‘The Hook Up’ and the video is titled “Ultimate Dashcam Comparison 2023: License Plate Reading is HERE!”. It may not be Clear HDR, but some weird anomaly caused the license plate numbers (on virtually every capture) to “hover” in front of the plates at night. I’m wondering what the heck that is and I’m curious if your unit will produce similar results! Yes! I’ve started watching your new series and it promises to be interesting! I will definitely stay tuned!

@@Bacnow⁠i watched the video. There were a few things that concern me. 1 is getting license plates to me is are they readable? How are the dash cams actually mounted on windshield. Different heights? Different angles? 12 inches or more apart? A lot of factors and I seen no pictures showing any of that. I prefer to have all the dash cameras mounted at same height. You may ask me why? It so they have a level playing field. So I always question how the person who is making the video where are the cameras mounted. I could easily position cameras in certain ways to make one look better than the other. But i do everything to not do that. He does a great video just wish I knew a little more about those controllables.

Why didn't you turn off the display on the N4 while doing the current draw test to make it a valid test , that display uses power and the viofo doesn't have a display?

I consider no wifi a good thing - these devices should never be any where near the internet. You really need to cover how these cameras are connected, do they use the cloud etc. This is especially true with Chinese companies who are compelled by their own laws to record and upload info on users regardless of what country they are used in.

With all my research it seems the viofo app is garbage, what is your findings? Ive also heard you have to turn yoir phones data off!

Vantrue says the same thing for cellular data to use live view. However I made a video on how to use live view on a viofo dash cam where you can turn cellular data off in settings of an iphone to correct challenge. I personally think all of the apps for dash cams have challenges. Especially with Thinkware having 4 different apps. Most times people download wrong app and hate that it wont work at all. The main thing is learning how to navigate them.
