@@KarineAlourde I would like to be very clear you said you learn your history in Haiti schools. Please don't underestimate Black Americans knowledge of their own history. Just as you learn in your homeland we also know our true history we are educated and have some of the Best Black scholars. I know the history of the Dahomey women warriors. The problem is Hollywood tend to glamorize and add untruth to Black history of events that is not all factual. This was the case in this movie Women King. Everyone need SANKOFA a Ghana word meaning "Go Back And Get It." Just do not take whatever is told to you or flash on a movie screen. That have been directed and produce by white film makers. Yes you are correct and what you suggested one should do their research. Get FACTS because Women King was surrounded with fantasy and not all factual TRUTH. We need Truth not twisted story telling.

I love Viola Davis as an actress and she someone to admire. I just would love to see women of color in different type of roles other than the stereotypical. It seems like it’s becoming more diverse now. I would love to see her in a Sci-Fi movie, being a mythical creature or a horror film. Just something different. I never noticed how beautiful Viola Davis is until she wore her natural hair on the Oscar’s red carpet years ago. I didn’t recognize her at first. I saw her and immediately thought, wow, she is beautiful. When I realized it was Viola Davis, I was in awe. I always thought she was good looking, but those long hanging straight styles she wore dragged her features down which to me always made her appear sad even when she was smiling. But seeing her with her natural hairstyles as the hair is up and away from her face like a crown, it really accentuates her features. Beautiful eyes, beautiful lips, beautiful high cheekbones, nice oval shaped face that narrows at the chin. Reminding me of the Ancient Egyptian queens. Damn, she is gorgeous. And of course, her acting skills goes without saying.

I think the great thing about this movie is that it has aroused curiosity about this part of African history and started a conversation. We can't just claim the good things in that history and not the bad. I think the Woman King is about how these women who were considered to have no value in that society and were forced to become warriors, slaves, or die.. chose to fight. They came together, supported each other, and made the best of a pretty bad situation. They proved their strenght and value in the context of those times. Remember, there weren't any other choices for them. The Dahomey empire were slave traders who got their wealth in this way. These were very violent times and horrible things were being done, but it a part of African history that we need to learn about too.

The story of Viola Davis bringing is shockingly similar to mine, esp the brother. Mine was a single "mother" with four kids and my male womb mate use to brutally beat me that I still have scars on my body till today. My bio incubator used to egg him to do it. I do not understand that degree of evil.

Wow how happy am I to find your video. This is my take, the movie was great. Those women were slaves to their king wishes, do you think they could say NO. They strive to be the best for the task over their head. Ms Davis is a true warrior, and this is just her way of physically showing it. I saw it Friday, I cried 4 times and I'm going back tomorrow. What was so amazing was from start to finish there was a story line, this was not made to be a documentary, just imagine it as a story well told that's all. I think she is Fabulous.❤❤

Great video on Viola Davis! ❤️❤️❤️ But, don't forget people can check her book out from their local libraries too. People can access a physical or digital copy (e.g. e-book, downloadable audiobook) and if their own library doesn't have it they can try requesting it via Interlibrary Loan. Just wanted to mention those options too 🙂

Viola was robbed of the Oscars a couple times (before she eventually won) in my opinion but this review has me wanting to get the audiobook to her book. I have the ebook! These images were striking, wow! She is hands down one of the best actresses of our time, possibly all time not just as a BW but in general. Love her and she is genuine. All of the roles she plays, she really embodies the essence of each role extremely well including her role in The Help which she regretted.
