'It's not good enough anymore,'
Speaking on Ireland AM following the death of Ashling Murphy, Muireann O’Connell says violence against women perpetrated by men is a pandemic.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Ashling Murphy in Tullamore, Co Offaly.
The 23-year-old died from injuries following an apparently random attack yesterday.
Supt Eamon Curley says "no stone will be left unturned" in bringing the person responsible for the murder of 23 year old Ashling Murphy to justice.
He says investigators in Tullamore believe the fatal assault was carried out by one male who acted alone.
Elsewhere, the Taoiseach has paid tribute to the 23-year-old who was attacked while out jogging yesterday.
"She didn't waste a minute of her life"

This is dangerous talk and is not helping the situation at all. Ireland Am should be made take this down. Let’s teach the boys and men’ in our society, who does she think she is, talking like that. what about the 2000 men who contact AMEN every year because of physical abuse by their partners. Why didn’t she mention the siccors sisters, Catherine Nevin, Dolores O Neill, Sharon Collins, Catherine O Connor, Martha Herda, Rose Lynch. Shall I keep going these are all women who have murdered men in our country some killing 2 and 3 victims. Yes what happened to poor Aisling Murphy is unacceptable and the Guards need to pull the finger out big time and catch this evil monster. But wild accusations and finger pointing at every boy and man in the country is totally unacceptable and dangerous. Shame on you!!

Why is it that every woman I know has to fear for their safety every time they are out in public? What Muireann said was 100% correct.
@kevo5512
@kevo5512 2 жыл бұрын
@@AoifeCiste No woman or man should have to live in fear. But life is not that simple. There are bad bad men for sure and there are bad bad women also. Just like there are very decent honest men and very decent honest women also. Muireann seems to employ that all men and boys are naturally prone to attacking and murdering women and need to be taught that this is wrong I for one don’t want to be compared or likened to the evil bastard that snuffed out the life of Aisling Murphy.
@AoifeCiste
@AoifeCiste 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevo5512 she did not employ that. She even said that she knows not all men are prone to doing that. The only reason she was mentioning men is because it's men who are attacking women. While the majority aren't, all women feel threatened because this is something we have to face every single day. What she was saying is that it is vital that men and boys know just how terrified stories like Ashling's make us feel. It makes us think "what if it happens to me next?" Because the more men understand, the more likely women are to be defended when they are attacked in public. This isn't about blaming men. But men do have the power to prevent this from happening. Women are doing all we can and we have been for a very long time. But we need men's support so that eventually we won't hear of stories like Ashling's anymore.

I feel so sorry for the victim and her Family. But trying to blame all men is ridiculous, just like all woman aren't responsible for Myra Hindley, Beverly Allitt, or Rosemary West. It's typical of certain Irish people to join a bandwagon instead of putting the blame where it really should be placed, with one lunatic. Lets celebrate this young ladies legacy, and beautiful life and not create division in society, and have compassion for her families suffering. May Ashling Rest in peace.

I realize what happened is a cruel, senseless murder, not that any murder makes sense but I really don’t understand the hype, uproar, media coverage and attention this case is getting seeing as there’s been dozens of women murdered or vanished through the years I feel people keep endlessly talking about the talented life she had , the wonderful future and career while these things may be true it’s like there’s an undertone that it’s much worse what happened to her than a prostitute and every human life is important and deserves the same attention and coverage Also, we need to be careful about our attitude towards the Alleged suspect because the fact that he’s Eastern European doesn’t matter and we should be careful what we say about him as this happens in every country and nationality

I agree thoroughly but we have to remember that we live in a country where 90percent of our schools are dictated by one religion which is quite fundamentalist and draconian in its teachings and women are deemed second class citizens... no domination exists to this extent in other European countries, state run schools are non religious so it’s not surprising we’re very racist and abusive towards women

This stuff is a complete insult to Ashling. I'm a man afraid of other men when out and about. Men are murdered by men 4 times more often than women are in Ireland. Tackle crime and sentencing, and protect men and women equally. Making out that men are somehow culpable in any of this is distasteful at best. The entire female gender being lambasted over anything at all would be tolerated by our media for about 30 seconds! Men are fair game though somehow. Complete joke. RIP Ashling.
