It's not wise to idolize humans; he was a human. Yes he was iconic in our history and headed much improvement for our country, but he lived for long after he held official leadership positions. Poverty and inequality are complex systems, not for 1 person to wave a magic wand to solve and be solved in a short time, that's somewhat delusional to think could ever happen in current times. What are at the roots of poverty and inequality - basic rights, education, opportunities and access; these are things our government has surely known since 1994.

SAPS is underfunded and unmotivated and the army can't stay forever, the community must protect itself, that's where we are at in South Africa now. All communities should do what farmers have started doing recently, arm yourselves, start groupchats and methods of communication, and set up plans for disaster scenarios. When things get bad the community must be able to effectively and quickly mobilise to protect themselves and their families. The government in this country consistently shows us that it doesn't exist to serve and protect us, we can't rely on it with our lives. On the bright side if there is any good that's going to come from this it's that it came right when the government is trying to ban guns for self defence, this whole situation has been a very good example on why taking guns from law abiding citizens who want to defend themselves won't work here in SA.
