5:15 A preliminary exercise for Détaché (on all four strings) - memorize
5:58 Support the violin with the Left Hand
6:13 "Drag" the bow Right and Left (down and up) - with the "yielding wrist"

Dear Ms. Bushkova: I’m sorry for the two thumb down, which are absolutely no reason for them. I’m afraid that there are some terrible children surfing the internet and show no respect or appreciation for high quality contents such as yours. As an adult player for over 30 years, I have benefited from your teaching. Keep up the good work, and we all looking forward to see more contents from you...

Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment. I am so glad to know my videos are helpful to serious players. (I stopped paying attention to thumbs down a long time ago, truth be told... Almost every video of mine gets one thumb down within the first 24 hours of posting, too. I find it interesting and amusing :)

These are so helpful, thank you! Ms. Julia, I believe you have referred to violin studies that you recommend (I remember searching for a Russian study you mentioned but couldn't find it online); are there perhaps 'Top 3 Must-Have Violin Studies' that you recommend? I have Kreutzer, but would love suggestions for others. You have helped me continue to correct my lifetime of bad habits and I am so grateful!
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, there has to be more than 3. Also, it depends on the level of the player. Around Kreutzer, it would be the etudes by Mazas (books 1 and 2), Fiorillo, and Dont Op. 37

would it be possible to ask you a question, when I bow I find it extremely difficult to have flexibility in my wrist on the up bow, is this just practice and constant concentration or am I missing something, should I concentrate less and try to be looser, I would appreciate any answer if you have the time..
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 4 жыл бұрын
I cannot answer for sure as I cannot see what it is that you do on up-bow. The main thing at first is to make sure that the bow is moving parallel to the bridge. If it does, the job is more than half done. Of course, if you feel that you are tensing up in the wrist joint while going up-bow, then you can try to loosen "something" up in your wrist, sure.

What is the bow stroke denoted by both a dot and line above a note as in Suzuki v. 6 La Folia?
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 2 жыл бұрын
My advice -- do not take all those signs literally. That is why we need to study MUSIC in general and not just "how to play the violin" -- so that we can make a distinction how to play something by the context. In one context, this sign means one thing, in another - a different way of playing

In the other video you said the real hold on the bow was the pinky with the thumb. Here you said that the pinky comes off at the heel. I am confused!
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 4 жыл бұрын
I do not say that pinky comes off at the heel. I said that some players take it off at the TIP.
@user-yishtabachshmo

@@ViolinClassUSA But if it comes off at the tip, what happened to the hold between the thumb and the pinky?
@juliabushkova
@juliabushkova 3 жыл бұрын
At the tip, we do not need to hold the weight of the bow as the bow is the lightest there. In fact, we add pressure at the tip. What I was showing in the other video was how to keep the weight of the bow where it is heavy (i.e. the frog).

I believe that there are plenty of teachers who "teach" by simply playing for their students, yet there are not enough of us who can explain. If you/one want(s) to see how a good détaché is played, I suggest to watch at any great violinist and observe the principle that I explain here in action.
