This old violin needs a lot of work! It has quite a story to tell. Come with us as we scrutinize the old repairs and restore the violin to its old glory! We also continue on with our new violin build, along with a word from Freddie and the Hebrew Minute. Hope you enjoy!

I can tell you love your Violins, they are more just wood, still trees souls, as I love my Guitars mine tell me what need, it bothers me when someone does a trashy job…I only work on my guitars or ones I’m selling…When I used to take Karate my teacher would play his Amati violin, he had it as a child, yes was child prodigy, his mother an opera singer, he passed away a year before my father did. It too had worm holes and separation too bad he did not know of your existence, one day the day the daughter in law walked and walked out with it. I just shook my head in disgust Sensi’s wife was very upset…it with it issues sounded amazing I could feel it on my skin…

Thank you for sharing that very interesting story. You are so right regarding the violins. I want to help them get their best potential sounds. It is hard to explain. It sounds like you had an amazing Karate teacher who would play his violin and the violin itself must have been amazing. Yes, I would have loved to fix it up. I appreciate your writing and I hope you have a wonderful blessed week!

@@Violinsforu2. Hi from across the pond. You mention renewing the base bar. Is that because of the age when the base bar was fitted before todays higher pitch , higher string tension ? Thanks.
@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 11 ай бұрын
@@californiadreamin8423 Yes, that is one reason. Another is that some old instruments did not understand the purpose of the bassbar and so the carved it out from the top rather than installing one and also after many years a violin will lose power and needs a new one. Thanks for asking! Hope you have a great day!

@@Violinsforu2 Thanks for such a quick reply. Do you trim the base bar to achieve a particular tap tone by ear , or use Carlene Hutchins technique? I have my first 2 fiddles on the go, approaching thicknessing the plates, but when i opened up an old school fiddle….I bought it to strip of the varnish and then use it as a training aid…..I discovered the inside of the top plate was like a plowed field, a Friday afternoon must get paid job. My mentor , sadly now in another place, found there was just about enough would to thickness and the base bar was a nonsense….so it was a great thicknessing exercise and fitting a new base bar. I just loved doing it, and used Christmas glitter and an oscillator to get the right resonant frequency. The top is back on and I’m now ready to varnish…..another massive learning curve. The KZfaq algorithm brought me to you site just this morning which I’m pleased about, so I’ll be going through it over the next few days. Thanks.

I do have some information on him. If it is a true label then you have a very nice instrument! He was principal of the Violin Makers Guild in 1792. He used reddish brown varnish and the violins have a suave tone. The second listing mentions that the violins are modeled strongly to Stainer with very high arching but well executed. Scrolls are very well done. He used very good acoustical wood and the tone was quite pleasing. Hope you enjoyed that!

@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ernest, It looks like I won't be getting to the necks for a couple more weeks. When I do, I'll show a little, but that is one of the hardest parts of a violin, trying to get all the dimensions correct and takes hours to get it just right. It is something that is shared better in person. I assume you are too far away to do that. Since my channel is more for entertainment, I might consider adding a section just for members. Not sure, just thinking out loud. Thanks for asking and hope you enjoy the next one tomorrow!

How do you attach the neck to the body of a violin.
@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 Жыл бұрын
Hi Earnest, you first have to cut a dovetail into the body the size of the neck heel and then with hours of fitting you can get all the measurements right.
