Hands down the BEST medical resident vlogger on KZfaq! Please never stop making videos! I have no aspiration to be a doctor but I am in my last semester of nursing school and I have recently decided I am going to CRNA school afterwards or maybe an acute care gerontology nurse practitioner. Anywho you really inspire me and give me PATIENCE. Because of how well you handle stress. I work full time and i goto school at night ... so needless to say I can be a bit grumpy 😂😂

After watching this I have a suggestion for a future video. How about showing your thought process of what labs you're looking at, as to what illness you suspect. I know this would be beneficial to new nurses like myself. Thanks for the videos! You have a great uplifting personality.

I agree!! I love that she is always so energetic and smiling! She is soooo cute!! I really appreciate all her effort in making vlogs while doing her job at the hospital. Hi Siobhan, I discovered your channel 2 weeks ago and I'll stay here for a long time. You are so calm, patient, humble, open-hearted for others and it finds me, because I have similar character. Please keep sharing with what you do. It's not only about how it looks like to work as a doctor but also how to be a good doctor for others (relation doctor - nurse is often neglected). I also always wanted to be a doctor but I failed and went to study nursing. After 2 years I want to repair my mistakes which I made in a way to be a medical student. Your positive attitude keeps me in this path in difficult moments. Wish you all the best for new year. God bless you. Greetings from Poland :)

I work 24 hours as an EMT on a ambulance and obviously we also spend lots of time at the hospitals, I always wondered what it was like for the doctors during those types of shifts as well! So cool to see things from your side :)

As a new nurse, working in the hospital for the first time, it is very scary but seeing your videos gives me the confidence to further my education to an NP or PA. Can I just say how much your videos have helped me understand the behind the scenes of a hospital? My grandma had to go into the hospital last month because of COPD and a sickness. The idea of hospitals really freak me out and probably always will but how calmly you explain the behind the scenes and the routines of the doctors really let me put a real world sense into the whole ordeal. Yes, I was still very scared and cried one more than one occasion but your videos allowed me to have faith in the doctors to do their best! Thank you for the videos. You really have no idea how many ways they may help people!

What i really love about your medical videos is the fact that you never moan or groan whenever your pager goes off, Or the fact that you have to work a 24-30hr call shift. I applaud to your hard work because i never knew how difficult and time consuming it must be, and of course, medicine does take time, yet you’re never the one to slack on it. I love how passionate you are about your job and every time you talk to us on the camera, you can see the passion in your eyes when you explain what is going on. I also love how respectful you are when talking about patients and their condition. I had appendicitis recently and had to get my appendix taken out and had to wait 2 days for my surgery because my white blood cell count was so high, (which scared my mom because she thought it was yet at the time i was 17, so in the hospital i was at, I was considered a minor so they didn’t have any pediatricians. (don’t know why but all well) so i had to be transported to another hospital. Yet it took 2 days because of how rushed the hospital was, so seeing your side of view gives me an understanding Oh and also, when i had been taken by the paramedic, the chief firefighter was giving my parents such a hard time because he asked “Why couldn’t you take her?” to my mom, which made her furious because in that state my mom was relying on them to help me. Haha this got too long; but I really do applaud people like you who really take pride and passion in the work that you do❤️

I used to be on call. I found calls just after dropping off left me with brain fog and made it hard to get back to sleep after dealing with the incident. Respect for still smiling (at least for the camera) at the end of your shift.

Whenever your pager goes off I have a visceral reaction from when my pager would go off in residency. You do a great job making inpatient care accessible to the general public and you’re a natural in front of the camera. Nice job.

I still don’t get it. I’m a trucker and after 14 hours I have to shut down because I become a danger but after 23 hours a dr might have to preform life saving surgery! Ass backwards

@@ViolinMD I've had a 15+ hour surgery myself (scoliosis), I don't want to know how much the surgeon slept before and after that. I just know I told him to go home and sleep the day before.

Scottish government want to stop nurses working 12 hours shifts because it’s a long day. Doctors do 24 hours shift and nobody sees a problem with that.

The challenge is that you have two non-ideal situations to choose between: provider exhaustion or the telephone game. Having worked as a paramedic and allied health professional before medical school, I've lost track of how many times information I discovered failed to make it past the nurses to the physicians, whether it was mistrust of my profession or just too many things going on, I can't say. The hospital I worked at changed 1 floor to 8-hour shifts for the nurses, and there were more errors on that floor because of this phenomenon. So yes, exhaustion can be very dangerous, but various studies have shown it safer than frequent shift changes.

Extraordinary World 12 hour shifts are long when you first start them... after a while you adjust. In MY opinion, I’d rather work 3 days a week at 12 hours/day than work 5 days at 8 hours/day. And I may be wrong about this but Physicians can sleep at some point during their 24 hour shift? Obviously not if it’s crazy busy but that still may be where they can recharge their batteries slightly.

Fabiha Gm only second year med student, not graduated yet, not a doctor, not a resident, just a student on early residency (you have to be graduated to be a resident, you can take residency early depending on your university in conjunction with courses)

aliya rodriguez Even on camera, working the the medical field (residency too) can be extremely exhausting, and as someone who can afford to skip a few grades and possibly head into college around 16 , I’m looking into the medical field because a LOT of people in my family have worked in the medical field. I’d like to know about how even on camera she’s so calm. (even when in one of her videos she responded to a code blue, she was totally calm)

What is the reasoning behind 24hr shifts? Wouldn’t it be better for patients care to have doctors fresh!

david paris From what I have heard (I'm not doctor so I mm not sure) it is actually easier. They get the day after off to rest. It is easier to work 24/26 hours then have the next day off then to work 8-14 hours and have to be back in the morning (for example, they would go in at 6am, get off at 6-8pm [Depending on hours] then have to be back at 6am the next day). After every shift they have Passover (i think that is what it is called) where they tell the new shift what happened and any new patients who were admitted. It makes the chance of something getting passed on wrong (or someone getting confused) in Passover as there are less times it is happening durning a 24 hour shift schedule.

When you are in the middle of documenting something for a patient and get a page that requires you to go see a different patient, how do you prevent forgetting what you needed to document for the other patient?

I've always been reliant on carrying lists with (usually barely legible) to do list. It can get pretty long pretty fast :P

I know that from an EMS standpoint that you generally remember what you did even if you had back to back calls all day! It also helps to take notes when you are with the patient so that you can jog your memory in case you forget. This is what I have found out and it works for me.

ALWAYS keep a notepad with me and note the call so when I note someone and when the phone rings Ik where to continue after that call.
