As an internal medicine resident, I'm seeing patients in the emergency department, admitted patients on the ward... and today we are trying to find a moment to celebrate the new year too!!
Learn about necrotizing fasciitis... what people often call flesh eating disease!!

I remember one nurse who was taking care of me in the intensive Care unit. My dad would try to do something for me and he got snapped at by the nurse. Hopefully she has learned her lesson and is not going to be like this to other people. The charge nurse ended up taking charge and she didn't interfere with what my dad was doing. She was extremely happy to help with whatever my dad needed help with. Stay positive♡

Yea, both pneumonia and covid are respiratory illnesses with majority of the same symptoms. But I don’t think it was Covid, since pneumonia is pretty common during the winter time, and if it was covid, I’m sure they’d all have been sick a while after, including the doctor, residents and nurses. But you can’t rule it out, who knows.. I’m sure covid already reached parts of the United States by this time.

@@zaa6811 (UK here) my grandad had really bad pneumonia late 2019/early 2020… before covid was really named or a big thing. I love your positivity I have spent a lot of time in hospitals as my wife has pulmonary atresia with vsd and mapcas and has led to a lot of complications she has just gone through her 5th ablation with this last one being successful her cardiologist is amazing but can be hit and miss sometimes with the rest of the doctors, I think I now understand a little why they get a little grumpy due to the long shifts but seeing you smile even though your so tired is heart warming. Keep up the good work you really are making a difference to peoples lives

Happy New year! I would love to see a video highlighting the roles of some of the allied health staff (Dietician, SLP, physio, Occupational Therapy, LHIN Care Coordinators)! I love your videos. Keep posting these amazing videos Siobhan! You are doing an enormous service to humanity as a whole. Just think about all the young people who would be encouraged, and influenced to become doctors :) I myself am working as an engineer atm, but seeing you, your happy face, smile and overall positivity about your job, I really do envy and fantasize about going to Med school, become and work as a doctor. I feel like your life is so much more gratifying. I can imagine how immensely humbling and satisfying your life in and out of the hospital would be, to be able to save countless lives, and to significantly ameliorate the quality of many more lives. Keep inspiring us all, wish you all the best in life.

I'm curious if they had to remove the whole leg or just an infected area? I've always been fascinated by flesh eating bacteria. Hope the patient recovers well.

@Mantralightofangels they definitely would if it was medically safe. All the interactions with patients are done off-camera to keep identities secure. She simply does sum ups. Pain killer's are kinda third on the list of importance when it comes to talking about Flesh eating bacteria so she didn't mention it.

I’m not sure but I’ve had that before. My surgeon did an insert and drain. It came on so sudden and just like that I couldn’t walk. After a week in the hospital, I was sent home with a PICC line. It tools months to recover. I was extremely fortunate
