Seeing something actually competently done on keyboard TikTok was really cool. Props to that person for not doing the same low effort content everyone else does, theirs actually took some time.

I like the Hatsune Miku Esc key one. The person made sure to put it in a way that every time they press 'Esc', the key right beside it will also be pressed. Genius design.

as somebody who has no foot into the keyboard community or whatever it's called, this video was very funny to watch. I have no idea why stuff is good or bad, what those funky numbers mean after a typing test and honestly the whole experience is just looking at cool keyboards while this guy almost starts to cry. I think the tapping on the keycaps after putting it on is more for the ASMR satisfaction than ensuring it's on. Either that or like spamming the lock button on your car key even though you know it just locked.

I will just mention that the way Glarses redid the first one was much more impressive than the original, the original video was one keyboard that was split, but Glarses was typing with 2 full keyboards which gives a lot more chances for error

This man has single-handedly piqued my interest into getting a better keyboard. As a sign of my admiration and gratefulness, I will bring a small keyboard in my bag, remove the keycaps, put them back on again, and press them repeatedly while looking at him (if I ever meet him).

In retrospect my first keyboard projects of converting two ducky one (no hotswap ISO boards were available) boars to hotswappable ones by desoldering with really old soldering station from 70's and solder sucker from 80's while breaking multiple pads in the process and breaking various contact traces having to resort using jumper wires would have made quite "different" kind of modding video... Though the both boards ended up working just fine and the damage done during the process is mostly not visible to outside.

I feel your pain. I fell out of the mech keyboard hobby years ago, in large part because I felt like the products and content were more about looks than, I dunno, usability? Ergonomics? I say this as someone who types 7~8 hours a day for work - I love a beautiful keyboard, but it must be a solid and dependable tool that helps me work better, not just an expensive piece of desktop art. A lot of viral content feels very hollow. I think we can draw a parallel here to viral recipe videos: they're fun to watch and they're shareable, but how many people are actually going to try following those recipes themselves? It's spectacle. It's 30 seconds of "ooh, that looks great" before moving on to the next clip. Nothing wrong with being entertained by these videos, but it's frustrating if you care deeply about the craft and want something more substantial. Ultimately though, I think it comes down to the constraints of TikTok and the sorts of content that it selects for.
