I grew up there in the 70’s and 80’s. Awesome place to live.

I love my hometown. I was born in Virginia Beach General hospital in 1983. Lived here all my life. My mom was born here too.

Born and raised in VB 1980-2003. What fun to see some of the mom & pops I used to work at-- the Royal Clipper and the Golden Sands (gone). It's a sad day when the little hotels give way. What a great video!

Reminds me of the time we went on the Christmas light tour where you put the cassette in your car and drove along the boardwalk. My favorite was the Giant Octopus. That was 23 years ago...

My mother spent a "girls getaway" at the Princess Anne in the 40s. She has those forgotten memories of VA BCH. I moved to the area in the early 80s and have my own personal forgotten memories. 🙃

Nice video but it completely skips over the fact how Virginia Beach was a “Whites Only” city for most of its existence. The desegregation also fueled the economic increase in the 70s and 80s.

It’s about the boardwalk, not the city.

@@KoolSpool yeah, the Boardwalk and oceanfront specifically was whites only back then.

Should he have mentioned it? I guess in terms of historical accuracy, yes. Can't deny VB oceanfront was segregated back then. I think I read somewhere that a portion of the north end was a beach for African Americans.
