Andrew “Corkey” Kirby has been farming since 1958 and now oversees a small grain and vegetable operation on 400-acres of rented land in Middlesex County. He’s been a conservationist for much of his life with a stewardship ethic passed down through his father and grandfather. Now, he’s instilling those same values in his grandson Jacob, who is a fourth-generation farmer.
This is the latest installment of Virginia CSP Champions, which profiles producers across Virginia and details their participation in the Conservation Stewardship Program with USDA- Natural Resources Conservation Service.
About Virginia NRCS: NRCS helps farmers, ranchers and forest landowners conserve Virginia’s soil, water, air and other natural resources. All programs are voluntary and offer science-based solutions that benefit both the landowner and the environment.
