How is this a headline?????? I graduated in 2009. We had smartphones... And If a teacher even saw your phone then it got confiscated immediately. If you didn't like it then you could go talk to the principal about it...then the principal got your phone. Period. If it's an emergency situation I'm sure that someone having a phone out isn't an issue. The emergency situation is the issue at hand at that point. This is ridiculous. What is this really doing? Every school that I know of has rules against phones in class. But when students and parents continually act in defiance of this, what do you do; teachers have a different job. Maybe put a legally enforceable fine on PARENTS for infractions, then parents will either pay or enforce it on their child. And then you’d have to ban direct sales of phones to minors. Since monitoring bathrooms is out of the question, you’d have to set up a system that makes it impossible to use them there. Auto-locked phones during school hours is a nice idea. But what about sick days and vacations? See, this may be why the system can only go as far as parents are willing to go.

I am 70 years old and when I was in second grade I was reading at a 6th grade level. The only thing that we had growing up was a TV that didn't work unless you turn the antenna to get reception and a phonograph to play music. Sometimes our dad would come up and shut that TV off right in front of us and you say find something to do or I will find something for you to do. We had encyclopedias and books to read and we had to look magazine and Life Magazine and we got the newspaper weekly. My mother knew that reading was very important for her five children so we read everything including the encyclopedias. And we were not Wealthy by no means but we had wonderful parents. My parents even knew back in the day that the television would be a problem if we just sat in front of it 24/7 like they do with the cell phones nowadays. Take those phones away even at home give them a limited amount of time on their phones even at home. Have you ever seen any of those programs on KZfaq where they asked the Gen Z generation questions that are just common sense and they don't even know how to answer them and they can't even do a math question, they are so unlearn they know nothing but gen Z attitudes and the materialistic world

I worked in an elementary school and I saw what's going on and I seen children in third grade that couldn't even read. It is this generation. And then I would never have said anything to you as you said to me like only 6th grade level. You're a very degrading person you don't know how to uplift people I think that I was reading really well in second grade. We're here to uplift each other not tear them down or to make them feel small or you were in the middle. Collect a more positive attitude and positive things will happen to you. Your mouth will be your judge and people can read you very well. There was one other book that I read and I still read it, and that is the Bible and it gives me wisdom and knowledge of people like you who always put others down, only to build yourself up, but what you don't realize is you're not really building yourself up by criticizing other people that what you are actually doing is just tearing down your own character and people will catch on to that egotistical attitude

I used to be opposed to this because when the shooter showed up in their classrooms, the kids would need their phones to call 911 and leave last messages to their parents. Now, since the Supreme Court decided that bump stocks are just fine, it no longer matters. There won't be anyone left alive to call 911. Speaking of children and teens' mental health, wouldn't it be just as important to their mental health to know that their day won't be interrupted by a mass shooting, as it is to not be teased for their looks on TikTok?
@loudidier3891

When we started running active shooter drills years ago, one of the first things we learned was too many people calling 911 overwhelmed the system and kept the person with the most accurate information on hold. Policy became one caller per classroom and only calls from classrooms close to the shooter.

Imagine what the Uvalde shooter could have done in 70 minutes with a bump stock. I'm not talking about saving lives once the shooting starts. I'm talking about what the hell is wrong with us that we're ignoring the real threat to our children and instead, endlessly focusing on cell phones and social media.
