In late June, 2021, I visited Virginia City for three days and followed Fireman Ed Gallegos around with my cell phone camera. Forgive any imperfections!
This is a LONG video, if you want to get to the actual cab ride, forward to about 1hr into the video. For those who want to hang with Ed for an hour or so, this is a great video to get to see what he does, soup to nuts, to prepare Virginia & Truckee steam locomotive #29 for operations in Virginia City, Nevada.
On this visit I also got a lot of video of yard operations and a first run of the new #52 caboose on the mainline into American Flat. I'll post that footage as a separate video, eventually, but I wanted to get the new Ed Show up soon.
It's joking called Ed Show #17, but there's currently only a few Ed Show videos at this playlist: • 'The Ed Show'
I hope to get back to the V&T with a real camera in late October or November, 2021, we'll see.

I enjoyed this video. It brought back memories from long ago when I was fireman on couple of small narrow gauge engines. One burned wood and the other burned oil. Its something you never forget. I met Ed some years ago and watched him get V&T 18 ready to leave East Carson City and go to Virginia City. Look forward for more videos.

Im a few years late but been watching some of your vides for years. Got the edd show on my fav list for years. Its cool to see him still doing what he loves. The same goes for you. Ill keep in tuneed with both of yalls vids. Have a awsome day.

Hey glad you have enjoyed the videos, make sure you're checking out the @VirginiaTruckeeRailroad channel too, kzfaq.info, I'll probably post some footage I shot for Halloween there soon, I didn't really get anything that dramatic. I wish I had spent more time with Ed during my visit, I should have grabbed some footage of him training a new fireman. As it is, I probably won't get back out there til next year mid-year, sadly, I have to miss the Christmas Train O'Lights this year.

You should stand with your back in front of boiler You will find out how hot the boiler gets Like I did May of 2018 in Jamestown.

Nothing official on the #18, unofficially I would say they have their hands full keeping a railroad running, so the 18 is taking a backseat right now. Just IMO, nothing I was told. Re the railbus, they were going to move it, perhaps to do some work on it, but the brakes were stuck on and they'll move it later. I have some video of the yard moves I talked about, might be a month before I process and post it.

Are the steam locomotives running at the museum ever going to be able to run up to Virginia City? Are there plans for 1 or 2 to be put into operational rotation ever?

Great questions! As the "Official Fan Page" I can only guess, I imagine there are several issues. I don't know. Make sure you attend the Steam-Up this summer, the Reno will be brought down from Virginia City greatwesternsteamup.com/ ask your questions there to some officials and see what the State's position on this would be.

Hasn't the 27 been owned by the state all along? First in Carson City, then moved up to the Comstock History Center?

@@jimlohse No actually, it belonged to the gold hill historical society in like the 80s but was pretty much taken by force by the Nevada state railroad museum.
