During periods of bird migration the park attracts lots of birds as it forms a green oasis within Bangkok but there are lots of interesting birds to see all year round. Birding in the park here is always rewarding with some colourful species at all times and a nice place to watch them from the bird watching tower. In this video I take you on a virtual birding trip to the park on another of my birding in Thailand adventures.

I have been to the Bird Watching Tower in Si Nakhon Khuean Khan Park in 2018. But that time I did not bring my camera with me. There are many beautiful birds there. Thank you for sharing your birding experience there. Good jobs. Have a nice day and happy birding.

It is a really good spot, particularly during spring and autumn migration. I have had several lifers there including Fairy Pitta, Narcissus Flycatcher & Kamchatka Leaf Warbler. Glad you enjoyed the place and thanks for watching.

Yeah, I regularly do my birdwatching in Bang Kachao) all these birds I have seen too. It’s amazing how you captured them. Nice shooting.

A great video, many thanks Nick. We are not long back from a short trip to Bangkok and I managed to see most of the birds you featured. I also went to the tower and saw nothing! We just have to go back, the whole trip was enchanting. Subscribed!

Because my wife and I planted nearly 200 species of trees and shrubs on our nearly 3 rai in Ayuthaya we have nearly all of these birds visiting or living on our property. No crows , thank god, but my wife says their were millions of them 50 years ago growing up here. Now not hardly a one around these parts. Thanks for sharing your video.

That's really interesting. Effectively you have created your own wooded parkland habitat. Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park gets an amazing variety of migrant birds passing through in spring, I expect your garden does too.

@@BirdingwithNick We have a large park with a lake very close by and we are on the river so birds are passing by all the time. We have a pair of white breasted water hens that have made their permanent home with us in our garden and have spawned 6 babies here in the last 9 months. Great to listen to. They hide extremely well in a small pond we have.

@@briancattani5109 It sounds lovely. Those waterhens make some funny squawking noises. You may have seen the footage I got of one in a tree which is a weird place to see them.

@@BirdingwithNick You don't expect them to fly but when disturbed off they go and can land anywhere. They are great at hiding as I seldom see them out in the yard and think they have all left the property and then one day I see one or two just walking around.

Thailand's birds are very similar to those living in India, Malaysia and Singapore. I've seen zebra doves, orioles, mynas, magpies, purple herons, cattle egrets, intermediate egrets, white bellied sea eagles, spotted doves, house crows and red junglefowl wild chickens.

Yes, indeed. Thailand's birds are from three biogeographic zones - Indo-Himalayan, Sundaic and Indochinese. So India is part of the Indo-Himalayan (obviously) while Malaysia and Singapore are part of the Sundaic region. Only some species from the Indochinese region are not shared with those countries. Species such as Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Indochinese Bushlark, Siamese Fireback, Blue-rumped Pitta....but of course these are species that are in families that exist in the other two regions.

Hello Friend how are you?. How impressive that Thailand is and how incredible that there is such a dense forest in the middle of the city. The birds you were able to record on it are great. I really like the particularity that Asian birds have, they are completely different from American ones. It's a great video friend. I loved. Thank you for sharing your wildlife watching skills. My first time ever bird watching was in this park 31 December 2015. Haven't been there since but now after having seen this I will go back again. First time and I never saw anything special, but now I have hopefully gained some experience and I will be back. GREAT VIDEO!!

Glad the video has inspired you to revisit the park. It is a great spot for Pink-necked Green Pigeon and Stork-billed Kingfisher. When things get drier you can usually see a few Vinous-breasted Starlings there too.

@@BirdingwithNick Thanks! I was there on New Years Eve with a master plan to be alone in Suan Rot Fai on the 1Jan with everyone home hangover. Anyway, Suan Rot Fai was full. Maybe my luck, I met a British birder and he helped me a lot, otherwise I would not have been birding today as I was walking around knowing duck all. Anyway, you don't know how much thanks I owe you and your SECOND TO NONE web page. Me and my new British friend rented taxis and we traveled around looking for birds using your web page to find birding areas. I also called you a few years ago to go bird watching in Chiang Mai with you as a Guide. But you advised against it as it was a long holiday and the parks was full of people and birding would be pointless. Back then I did not understand what you meant, but today I fully understand and work days are better as there is not much people

@@shaunferguson8782 It's best during migration times. If you get the right weather conditions in April you can see a lot of good birds. I've seen lots of rare species then but I always enjoy the Pink-necked Green Pigeons, they are common there.

@@BirdingwithNick We are still hoping to go birding in your mum's neighborhood next spring, if the NJ tour to Spain is still on. (Everything got rescheduled for 2021 for the same dates, as you probably know.) I can't wait to see your videos from the UK! Do you know Jack Fearnside (Birding London), by any chance? He was going to take us out for a one-day tour of some birding spots, and -- completely coincidentally -- a good friend from Terre Haute had a great birding tour with him just before travel was shut down! So we're going to ask him again for a date in April.

We have many common birds 😀 And other birds we have seen it when we visited Thailand except for the pied fantail! What a cute little bird. The place looks awesome and its really a great birding spot!

Yes, Pied Fantail is really common in Bangkok but it is an amusing little thing that is always busy, darting around and making a noise. This park is one of the best birding spots in the city and can be superb during spring migration.

I couldn’t find night heron, they are rare here, but in Taiwan i filmed a lot, Asian openbill is one my favorite birds. My advice to you is to give names of birds and some info too. I usually write a name in several languages and write if they are males or females. Also their info. Birdwatching tower here is overrated. In fact you can’t spot anyone there because too many people scare birds away with their loud voices. Baby koel is cute, I filmed him too a lot in my video about cuckoos.

This was one of my early videos and many people gave me similar feedback to yours, about giving more information about the birds so in my more recent videos that is exactly what I have done. Check this one out - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9aoqrOTuZPamXU.html The birdwatching tower is a good place to spot birds in the early morning during migration in April. Just as the sun hits the treetops I often spot Oriental Dollarbird, Crow-billed Drongo, Black-naped Oriole, Ashy Drongo, Blue-tailed Bee-eater perched in the open. Just after a rain shower it is worth getting up there and looking too as birds sit on the treetops and dry out. But yes, you need to time it right otherwise you meet a lot of noisy people.
