Do they offer natural prep laxatives to prep routines for these procedures yet? Most of the chemicals you're given are all companies being sued for negligent malpractice at this point.

Is contrast ct of colon with barium enema considered as a standard screening procedure for colon rectum cancer

The disadvantages? If a polyp is found, you have to have a regular colonoscopy to go in to remove it. That means, you have to go through colon prep (horrible) twice. Also, you are zapped with some radiation, right? I have heard that virtual colonoscopy is not as accurate as a regular colonoscopy. You can’t actually inside like a regular colonoscopy.

You heard: SHE is an actual doctor that specializes in the colon. I'm pretty sure she knows better than whatever you heard. Both have advantages. One of the main ones with virtual is they can detect cancers in other areas like the kidneys, pancreas, etc that the optical one cannot. Plus, the risk of perforation is much lower, and if you use sedation for optical that risk is completely eliminated with virtual.

The big mistake these claimers always make is comparing the amount of radiation to what is normally received environmentally over a year, but this exposure is concentrated over less than 10 minutes.

There is NO AMOUNT of ionized radiation that is considered safe for a human being. The usual statement is are the risks versus the benefits. Naturally if the detection of a polyp is detected through a virtual, perhaps the risk from ionized radiation is worth it. But a standard colonoscopy can detect a polyp without the radiation. Is there is risk of a colon perforation through a standard colonoscopy. Yes. But the thing is that if a virtual colonoscopy detects a polyp, you will have to go back and have a colonoscopy performed.

@@sarahmccoy1941 Virtual can detect other cancers like in your kidneys that optical cannot. The risks overall are much higher with optical than virtual and no studies have shown significant cancer risks from the radiation. People do CT scans all the time with no problems.

I would rather have this as an option than the actual colonoscopy that my GP wants me to have under general anaesthetic.

U don't need general anesthesia.. I had my colonoscopy without any.. it was fine

Worried about the bowl prep i suffer from acid refux will that make it worse plus i have high blood pressure suppose to have one done this Monday.

Same as me, I'm more worried about the laxative than the scan lol, I also get acid reflux/heartburn

For acid reflux look up Dr. Stan Ecberg’s video on apple cider vinegar. You’re probably not making enough acid.

Do you need to be colon empty?Do you need to have anything inserted?

Hi Kathie, Yes, the colon needs to be as clean as possible prior to the CT examination, as this will increase the sensitivity of the CT for detection of polyps. Instructions for colon cleansing are provided to our patients by the radiology nurse before the appointment date. Typically, a small tube will be inserted into the rectum, and through which the colon will be insufflated with gas. Distension of the colon with gas is important for polyp detection.

i had one of theses last monday 21st i was fine going in but gas pumped in my rectum o whoo stomach cramps they gave me busacpan injection and contrast dye injection they told me my eyes may go blur for short time after the busacpan injection and i been feeling gross since feeling sick since kinda of dizzy loss of appite and bowel prep was vile never a gain and they warned me of perperation that could happen but unlikly but that was fine phew if i knew befor hand would never of had it done and dont recomend it and was thinking maybe i had a reaction to the dye contrast :(

I had a regular colonoscopy yesterday..had to stop due to pain and looping in my left upper ileum..they are sending me for one of these now..I've hear it's just as painful..and if they send me moviprep again then there is no way I'm going.. any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Virtual couldn't possibly be just as painful. Nothing is snaking it's way through the entire colon, and it uses much less gas.

Had one in the UK I had a restricted Colon and to push past it they pumped more gas in even though I was screaming in pain and shouting stop With a loud whoosh it pasted the restricted part and after came out from my mouth leaving a massive lump in my left side Now I get heart pain and can feel pressure under my left arm They refuse to look or help and my life is bad It hurts to breath too I went back for help but they ridiculed me saying it can't stretch your diaphragm or displace your heart its all IBS No one will help I trusted the NHS not now

I have symptoms, but turned down a regular colonoscopy because it is invasive. My doc suggested a virtual colonoscopy and assured me it was totally non-invasive. Having seen this, I know know that was untrue and I will be cancelling this procedure as well when the appointment comes through. I am not fond of the idea of people shoving things up my ....

1) There’s a DNA blood test for colon cancer cells . No fasting, just a regular 1-tube arm draw. Extremely accurate, can detect even if there’s no polyps yet. Ask your doctor for it, they don’t know! 🙀🤑🤬 And 2) the Mail-in poop kits are getting more accurate all the time. Tell your doctor to START with one of these FIRST. YOU have to be your own educated consumer!

The only thing she got wrong is the sedation. A colonoscopy does NOT require sedation. Some doctors won't do it without, but I can assure you there are plenty that will do it without sedation. There's no medical reason to use sedation, it's been studied over and over and pain levels are between 2.5-3, and the procedure takes far less time without sedation, and you can drive yourself home.
