For the curious: Phong shading is a lighting technique where the lighting of a polygon is calculated so each pixel gets its own Normal. Simply, the transition from lit to shaded parts of a model are smoother and allow for more complex shapes with fewer polygons. The PS2 couldn't do this, and could only calculate Normals for each vertex, leading to those weird zigzag shadows.

Virtual-On Force was also available for the Xbox 360, of course Japan exclusive but the physical copy runs on western 360s with no problems. Technically speaking Virtual-On MARZ is also a sort of port of Force

The Second Virtual on the masterpiece collection is the Xbox version that got a major overhaul since it’s just the definitive & updated version of the dreamcast version. Also the Virtual On 4 Force also came out Xbox360 only to JPN Xbox Live.

How do I get it on my Series X? Do they also have a definitive version for the PS5? I love Virtua On so much, I'll buy it twice for the Trophies/Achievements. Addendum - I started playing Virtua On back when it first hit here in the states in the 1990's. I had/have it for my Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

Oh dang this looks beautiful I used to play VOOT in the arcades about 20 years ago. Those twin sticks? Those were the stuff man. I believe it's the most realistic (though still arcade-y) mech control I will accept. If a peripheral for those exists for the modern consoles believe me you'd want to get it for the authentic experience; it completely transforms how you play the game. However, the home version of the twin sticks is reputedly more fragile than the arcade version and that's pretty concerning, given I had a friend who would wreck the arcade sticks every couple months.

I gotta say you're kinda selling me on those twinsticks! I never got chance to play this in arcades (not sure if we got it over here) but if I can find a PS4/PS5 version of them I might give it a look
@Lakhshamana
@Lakhshamana Жыл бұрын
@@DreamcastEnjoyer VOOT certainly went stateside since the machine I used to play was in English. Also please spend responsibly on your peripherals since I'm pretty sure twinsticks cost an arm and a leg (if not a kidney on top of that) nowadays

I have played that A Certain Magical Index crossover game on PS Vita. Wasn't half bad, to be frank. The story mode at least is worth a playthrough, and it did have a kick-ass final boss. Get the PS4 version though, because the Vita version I played had some framerate issues during the busier battles. Also it's just a good idea to get it while it's still cheap on secondhand markets, because that game is no longer available for purchase on PSN (as far as I'm aware, maybe it's back?), likely due to license expiration.

Really wish they'd release this on the Switch Used to play VO:OT competitively in the past during the arcade and DC days Edit/Add: I see you're struggling to aim. Jump and then crouch to do a 'quick jump', you'll immediately lock on to the opponent with no lag on landing.

I just wanted to say that I love the content and I hope you keep it up. I found you through your "The Cozy Vibes of Sonic Adventure" and have watched ever since. Your candid approach to these commentaries brings with it this sense of sincerity and relatability that is often missing from bigger channels who cover similar topics. You somehow make me feel nostalgic towards games I have never played, which is quite the feat. So yeah -- love the stuff. Unrelated to any of this, but have you heard of / played "Burning Rangers." I know you're the /Dreamcast/ Enjoyer, not the /Saturn/ Enjoyer, but I thought it was worth asking anyways.

A few things I would say from my own experience with all three games: -VOOM is still charming even if limited compared to the second entry, and I remember playing the Windows port a lot. Always thought it was confusing that version did not have Jaguarandi unlockable like the Saturn and PS2 version did though, that aside it was almost arcade-perfect with a patch to run it at 60fps. -VOOT definitely was the one I started playing a lot when I could emulate the Dreamcast, and I even remember getting my brother and friends to play it with me a handful of times. The Xbox 360 might be the best version with content, controls and fidelity...but I'm annoyed that the DC version is the *only one with split-screen*. Doesn't make sense that the XBLA/PS3 and this port didn't include that when the DREAMCAST could offer that. That aside, it felt to me like a souped up VOOM, same way as you could compare Smash 64 to Melee when speed and refinement is talked about. -Force is definitely the one that has me most conflicted from the two times I was able to play it: The lock-on dash attacks having a delay which makes hitting them harder as your mech shoots a bit after the lock-on is done...so instead of feeling snappy for me to try dash/jumping and attacking, it instead feels like I miss a lot for no reason while the AI still can hit me a lot. Couldn't finish the first Arcade mode run I did as I accidentally, in a frustrated moment, hit the A button on No on the continue screen when stuck on a fight. That aside, the version I played was the also Japan-exclusive Xbox 360 port, and at least the game still looks pretty nice AND has split-screen. That's all folks; stumbled upon your channel from the Phantasy Star Offline video but I had to sub ASAP when I saw this and other videos on your channel :)

Played OT on my xbox recently and theres actually a shocking amount of depth. You quickly think oh theres a left/right/center weapon lets go and root and shoot. But you quickly realise, oh theres L/R/C attacks and also DASH L/R/C, and jump L/R/C then theres also entire close range melee mechanics. Then theres the two turbo dash buttons when NOT used to dash power up your regular attacks. Then theres CROUCHING attacks used by holding block. Theres also jump cancelling to quickly auto aim the camera. Every trooper has over 30 unique attacks and it all gets out of hand very fast. Seitch Collection when please.

Played this a lot on xbla port(heck, up to the point where it was literally just me and like 5 japanese dudes that were probably extremely confused about the reoccuring random foreigner left playing it online) and yeah, it gets nuts and i love it exactly for that reason. particularly in terms of the insane movement options available with how pretty much everything can cancel into a dash, jump, etc

Oratorio tangram is so much more than troopers. It has more combinations to make different skills and you have your ultimate moves and variations of attacks. force is the worst in the series, its slow as molasses and the AI is very cheep and will always jump if you shoot it and be annoying and it cannot tell if you are in the air or on the ground so if you jump and than fly forward and shoot it will jump up to evade your shot, only your shot is in the air and it hits it straight in the face, also marz is not a bad port, its missing a few of the characters but it makes up for it for a very long campaign mode that fleshes out the game world and has tons of replay value.
