Great video with excellent descriptions. I was having a hard time finding much info on the Maglev so I'm happy to find this. My wife and I are planning a visit to Japan for the first time, probably in 2 or 3 years, so I hope part of this line is operational by then.

Takeshi-san: JR Central "has a poor relationship with JR East" look at what will happen when you swipe-in at JR East area with an IC card, get on a JR East train and go beyond Atami (ie. JR Central territory)😉😉

We have same issue at Maibara which is boundary between JR Central and JR West. But I'm not sure if this issue is the cause of JR Central. This problem may be due to all IC card system.

Actually it was not a problem, when I travelled from Omiya to Fuji by local trains in 2019. As expected the ticket barrier didn't let me out, but the station staff was kind and reduced the fare from my IC card manually :)

Yes I have wondered the same, like which technology will win in the end Maglev or hyperloop. Maglev has 50 years of R&D behind it. But hyperloop is being pushed as more cheaper.

Thank you for this video. would you consider making one about the service pattern on the chuo shinkansen, and how that will influence the tokaido shinkansen?
@kc3302
@kc3302 3 жыл бұрын
The service pattern depends on whether trains have to actually stop at every station or not - was it designed for trians to travel through stations at 505km/h??? Or can they slow down but not have to stop? That's something I don't recall hearing about. Assuming the trains don't have any reason to have to stop at each station I would say that most services would be non-stop between Shinagawa & Nagoya, with one train every 30 minutes stopping at all 6 stations - this is going off the current timetable for the Tokaido Shinkansen which only has 1 train every 30 minutes at "minor" stations such as Odawara which is considerably busier than any of the intermediate stations on the Chuo. Tokaido Shinkansen may slightly reduce the number of Nozomi services between Tokyo-Nagoya, but they obviously still need to operate at the same capacity between Nagoya-Shin Osaka. Given that the Chuo Maglev is likely to gain passengers from air travel Tokyo-Osaka they may even need to operate extra Nozomi services Nagoya-Shin Osaka. For every Chuo Maglev train arriving at Nagoya there needs to be a connecting train to Shin-Osaka, either commencing at Nagoya or a through service from Tokyo with enough empty seats available. With less Nozomi services between Tokyo-Nagoya they could choose to increase the service to the intermediate stations to encourage travel to/from those stations.

@@kc3302 According to Wikipedia it is planned to run express services that only stop at Shinagawa, Nagoya and eventually at a station in Osaka.
@cleasanna05
@cleasanna05 Жыл бұрын
If anything. I think the Tokaido Shinkansen might benefit from the Maglev due to less overcrouding and possible speed increases. Tokaido Shinkansen is not going anywhere, the Chou Shinkansen its basically a high speed Backup that will mostly be aimed at connecting the 3 biggest cities. Other cities along the coast to the south still will need shinkansen services, and there will still be a need to run trains past shin-Osaka on the Sanjo shinkansen. The Maglev its for people who are traveling for business and people who need to get somewhere Asap. I doubt the Maglev will have close to the frequency of the Tokaido shinkensen. I hope JR Central can finally have some improvements and get some much needed speed increases that could cut travel between Osaka-Tokyo by 12 to 15 minutes which would also help the connections with the Maglev.

Thank you for the video. For my personal preference, I really liked the Virtual Tour of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, where you zoomed out slowly before going to the next station in a straight line. I found it a bit difficult to follow the geography when you spin the camera around or teleport to the next station like on this tour. Keep up the great work!
@kc3302
@kc3302 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I noticed that too. My brain was trying to figure out why the line was heading back towards Tokyo, lol. I also preferred the Hokkaido one. Though with ~90% of the Chuo being in tunnels it was less relevant seeing where the line was being built between stations..

thank you so much for the detail explnation! i'm thinking if the Maglev service pattern will be similar to Tokaido shinkansen, that is, with fast (nozomi), semi fast (hikari) and all stop trains (kodama)? also how much extra fare do passengers have to pay if they ride the Maglev do you think?
@kc3302
@kc3302 3 жыл бұрын
Given the huge time saving, the fare would be between 1.5 and double the existing fare. I seem to recall from reading/watching about it, there will be only one class of seat. I'm guessing that all seats are reserved, so no unreserved seats or people standing. One thing I'm certain about is that JR Passes won't be able to be used on it, just like the Nozomi can't be used now.
@kuanysh_sartay
@kuanysh_sartay 3 жыл бұрын
@@kc3302 oh, no. But I think, maglev also will be differentiate like Shinkansen(Nozomi, Hikari, Kodama). For example, rapid maglev will stop only in Nagano, slow will be stop in all stations. So, JR Pass will be valid in slow train. It seems that fast train will ride 40 minutes from Shinagawa to Nagoya and slow train about 55-60 minutes with all stops, which also faster than current Tokaido's Nozomi 1.5 hours.

Also, if you click on the Wikipedia article en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%AB%C5%8D_Shinkansen#Route at the start of the "Route" section it shows 3 different co-ordinate lists. If you click on the coordinates for any station it will bring up a page that lets you view that coordinate in many maps/mapping services.

Is the orange line the real planned line? If yes, the tracks go through hundreds of houses, I wonder if it will be really possible to buy all of that land and relocate people. If only 1 family doesn't want to sell you're fucked lol. If they won't be able to built this, I think they should focus on increasing the regular Shinkansen speed to 360 km/h like planned. I think it actually makes sense even if the Maglev gets build. Maglev tickets will probably be pricey and for business people only in the first couple of years, so having a fast regular Shinkansen line for tourists and causal travelers will be important.
