Virtue have been at the top of the electronic loader games for a long time, they dominate both the high-end and the mid-range.

The Spire IR is based on the original Spire design, it's been on the market a long time and it was due for a refresh. Even though the hopper was an older design it still worked great it just had a few weak spots. The Spire IR 2 now has a similar shell closure to the Bunkerkings CTRL and a lighter weight drive cone.

The IR2 shell is even more robust than the CTRL actually. Nice review! A note on the drive system tech, the Spire IR2 has a smaller raceway and different geometry. Those two reasons are about 70% of the reason the CTRL is faster. Should we make an IR260?

RE: Spire IR260...YES! But they shoiuld be Spire IR 280s for sure...this is required IMMEDIATELY! :) My current go-to hoppers are what I call my Frankenhoppers. They're Spire 260's with IR trays in them.

@@ragonkeeper the only modification required is to remove the original Spire tray before you put in the IR tray :) Works perfectly.

Too much play between the top and bottom shell with that latching system. I'll stick with the original IR.

I want one of those nylon lids for my Spire 3. The locking tab has broken off of my previous two clear plastic (lexan?) lids for my Spire 3. I think it's too early to say that this iteration of the IR is the best hopper in paintball. IMO, the best hoppers in paintball are the Spire 3 and the Rotor. The Spire 3 feeds fairly fast and never jams. The Rotor feeds with unrivaled speed and will only jam very rarely. Is the LTR the same as the original Rotor or were there some kind of updates to it?

Does anyone have a hard time opening the ir2 lid? Mine is very difficult to pop open. I have to use a couple of fingers to pry it open.

Not to hate but I see the control hoppers always opening after a dive or a slide which it’s somewhat common for a hopper to open after a dive but not 7 times out of 10 My spire 3 probably only opened once it’s whole lifetime after a bad dive and sometimes I get some bad dives even bad slides when it’s rainy and muddy but my spire stays closed Unlike people I see at practice with those bunker king hopper it’s a nice hopper and it works but the design of that tab is stupid especially when the whole top can come off like now my other half is on the other side of the bunker and I have to go get it now so I can keep playing lol I rather wait to see how these ir2 play on the field if they stay close I’ll probably get one. If they don’t stay close .. try some duct tap to hold it at tourneys if you have one of these hoppers Again dont wanna hate because technically the control hopper is a spire 3, I just dislike the tab

Yeah, you're right. Editing this I thought about taking that part out or reshooting it, I should have done either. Ive been using two ctrl since they came out and have no problems, although I have not been at the field/store as much these past 6 months. Like you pointed out though that might not be everyone experience and I should point that out.

Find someone selling an old axe package or something. That'll get you into the game easily enough and it's flexible enough that you can use it anywhere.

Nah. Find an original IR used. I have seen them go for $60 and they are great.

My r2 went down I borrowed 3 different ctrl hoppers and all three kept popping apart, straight garbage

@@demonsl3r He's a little older. A an old man myself I can tell you, we aren't making as many epic dives as we used to. :D That's where they're going to vibrate loose for sure.

I’ve had my Ir2 for over a year now and it’s taken an absolute beat down from bad slide to slamming it into stuff and not once has it ever just came apart so I’m really surprised hearing this from you

Does this new version happen to have a larger capacity aftermarket shell that virtue offers? That was my only dislike of the I R what is the 200 round capacity effectively on the breakout if you don’t completely empty the hopper and you go to pod you’re dumping a lot of paint at least a lot as in 10 to 15% of your pod

So we just going to sit here and pretend we didnt see both piece didn't line up together when closed? How about the color and design so flat. To me the original IR looks more firm and study since it is held by actual bolt.

Misguided IMO. The Spire IR is the best hopper in paintball. I haven't rec'd my IR2 yet (despite having pre-ordered it about 2 hours after the pre-order became available) so I can't yet say that it's better, but I'm guessing it is, at least to some degree. IMO the Spire/CTRL vibration system is an answer to a question nobody ever asked. Think about this: the most advanced iteration of the Spire is the Spire 4 when it's connected to a CS2 with the ifi system. This system does away with the vibration thing, and liks the feed operation to the eyes in the gun....eyes! How is this better than having eyes hard wired directly to the feed drive like in an IR? It isn't, imo.
