Bark River doesn't look like having changed their mind about their edge finishing yet. This particular 3V Gunny knife has a decent micro bevel on its right side as usual. The new Forest sheath from DLT is even thinner than the old one, but I hope you would like it.

very nice looking gunny! the belt sander finish from bark river looks toothy. water stone finish is much finer. I think the difference in micro beveling with bark river knives is because of different craftsman finishing the knives. I would love to see your knife collection 2016! I'm wondering which knives you still have. I also loved the KSF sheath from sharpshooter best. every company is cutting expense where they can these days. luckily we can still enjoy good quality knives. You are lucky with 10% customs, we have to pay 21% + some other small fee. happy bushcraft!

I created by accident a flatter-on-one-side and rounder-on-the-other-side convex bevel on a knife I made for my father. It feather sticks wonderfully. Your video made me check the knife more closely and sure enough it had the geometry you describe. Great idea for a bushcrafting knife.

I just bought a Bravo 1 in A2 rampless, but with a full height grind. The full height grind is very nice. Thins out the edge angle nicely, but still very strong. I believe the Fox River is a full height grind with an even thinner blade stock, maybe .170 inches.

Very Beautiful Knifes, You are a very lucky man to be able to afford so many. I realise the price you pay is quite high and most likely worth the cost, if you would please mention the price paid when showing and doing reviews, i for one would appreciate very much, i will look up on line for cost. Since watching your channel you have taught me a lot. I have a large amount of different brands, some expensive and of course some not so much. I am curious if you keep most or just sell off the ones you don't care for. If you change the grind or bevel on some do they then accomplish better results that you would be looking for, or just buy a new one with different spec's. Thanks for your videos , the more i watch, the more i look for more. I believe i added to many questions for you to answer all at once so one or two would be just fine. Have a great day, see you soon!! Thumbs Up

+Gene Sauerbry I make two different grinds typically to the same model. One is traditional symmetrical zero convex grind for game dressing and batoning. The other is asymmetrical grind the left side bevel of which is very shallow convex to glide through a shallow layer of wood to make thin feathers. I enjoy the both grinds for each purpose. I have many chances to sell or give my Bark River knives to my friends. So the remaining knives on me is not so many but all good ones. Thanks.

I got a fox river two, and the blade geometry especially up by the tip are very thin, grind goes all the way to the spine, no micro bevel, excellent blade, another for river 2 that i have and the grind doesn't go to the spine, and towards the tip the grind has alot more material behind it and just doesn't slice as well, too thick compared to my other..handle is also more squared off than the good one I speak of, Suttle differences make a huge difference in the feel

I am looking to purchase a couple of Bark River knives for bushcrafting. was thinking about the Aurora for bushcrafting and the Aurora mini for fine carving both with black canvas handles with liners. the Aurora seems like it would be better for hole drilling as the point is in line with the handle. 3 V of course. what is your opinion?
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 7 жыл бұрын
I confirmed current 3V Bravo1 and Gunny don't have fatter geometry than A2 ones. So I assume 3V Aurora will come in a nice geometry as A2 one does. The LT versions generally make the handles uncomfortably thin and are not recommended. The pointy tip of the Aurora must be for drilling. Take care!

Dr. Wako how do you find the (current) build quality of BRK knives? Also has it changed over the years? I've bought 4 over the last year and I'm not impressed. None of them was sharp out of the box, they all had "uneven grinds" and the handle fit is not perfect on any of them (the micarta on my Bravo 1LT is close though). I also had bad edge rolling on one of the knives the first time I used it (light use). I've therefore decided to stay away from BRKs in the future, and rather spend my money elsewhere. This makes me a bit sad, because they have many really nice designs (my favorite is the Ultralight Bushcrafter) and nice steel and scales options. I just wish that the build quality and quality control matched the price.
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 8 жыл бұрын
+grunde73 Currently almost all of Bark River knives come in a dull edge. There are only a few exceptional zero convex sharp edges. So I routinely sharpen their edges just out of the box. I miss the days when all Barkies were sharp out of the box. The handle contours are different piece by piece even in the same model. So we need to hope good luck to meet a nicely contoured handle. I think they produce far too many knives in far too high pace for their capacity to keep their most important quality control. I already have enough experience with Bark River knives and what I do from now is not buying them but keeping my already bought knives in a good condition throughout my life.

I also bought the new AK forest sheath from DLT, it's ok not amazing, i never got a chance to own the original forest sheath made by great lake leatherwork. I also bought a horizontal carry sheath from dlt which is made by great lake leather work and the quality is much better, thicker leather. I like it but it's not for everyone as not everyone likes to carry their knives horizontally. Dr. Wako, I was wondering, do you not use the Aurora at all for bushcraft? I've been agonizing between getting the Aurora and Gunny in 3V and I still cannot decide.

+Victor Nekrasov Aurora has a sharper tip and feels a little dangerous to me. And I need more belly for my knives and sold my Aurora a few years ago. Aurora comes with the old bushcraft sheath and the tip was about to penetrate the bottom of the sheath. Anyway I prefer Gunny 3V the geometry of which is as nice as its A2 version. Thanks.

Shouldn't the stronger steel allow the manufacturer to use thinner stock? I don't get it. "3V is 300% stronger than A2".....So why are the knives still the same thickness? This really impedes cutting and slicing chores. I wish Bark River would offer thinner knives so I can at least cut an apple or a carrot with out it looking like I used a shovel.
@philiprobins5488
@philiprobins5488 6 жыл бұрын
The LT line are thinner. The thickness (for example of a Bravo 1) helps with its main attraction . . . batoning. The B1 LT is thinner, therefore more of a muscle slicer or feather sticker. No?
