Canada USA is all same brother.. posdoc mostly depends on lab not university

I am a post doc in Florida, whatever Dr. Bharti explains here are 100% accurate in my opinion. He breaks down the postdoc salary to all the fine details of a monthly expenditure. Cost of living in the States is very much high and room rents are particularly ridiculously high! Postdocs do cry even without watching such videos. The only way you can save some money is by living like a student (as in staying in shared apartments, sharing everything with other people and forget about spending a luxurious weekend!). Sometimes I wonder why I have to do a postdoc!

@@dr.sandeshkamdi4601 Well, my advice will be try to get in industry by securing a job and not postdoc! for pharmaceuticals, I feel that there are often good jobs everywhere that pay multiple times more than what a postdoc earns here! Remember with J1 visa to US (i.e. for postdoc), you are not allowed to work or seek job elsewhere and if you want to change visa to H1B, that process takes a long time.

But that being said, if you can secure a postdoc for say two years, then within this 2 years in the US, you can finish all the administration (i.e. asking for 2yrs return to India requirement waiver etc.),and once all papers are ready, you can start looking for jobs here and if you get lucky, convert the J1 visa to H1B visa for industry job. That way u can improve, but the first 1-2 yrs may not be very pleasant! but its definitely doable!

I have no idea about Marketing me postdoc.. but business' analytics etc has high demand..

I really appreciate your desire to learn and grow at this age but its not advisable for you to do postdoc at this age. postdoc is not job neither a degree. No agency do support you to get postdoc

@@SantoshBharti are baba after phd how many opportunities are here in India and salary here? So it's better to do postdoc in USA and fishing there in a bigger pond. Even if they do not get it there they will have more chances to get better faculty job in India. I would suggest make some videos on this part to encourage PhDs to join postdoc and try for the opportunity there.

@@SantoshBharti How can u say all postdocs are crying in USA? Is it a conclusion of your research on postdocs or just a hypothesis?

@@dr.sandeshkamdi4601 well definitely postdoc in US may earn slightly more than the postdocs in India (i.e. if you manage to save like a 1000 $ a month), which again is a very difficult thing to do if you want to live normally like your peers at work! I think people go to the US mostly to gain the experience, but the reality is that it is full of struggles (both financially as well as mentally). It is a big investment of our time and energy for something bigger in future (like for promotion in academic career). But then again how easy is it to get academic job these days? Extremely difficult!! We also often go abroad with the mindset that someday we will settle there, but the reality again is that there are so much struggles which will continue for years until one gets a green card to be able to do some other side hustle to earn extra $. One one hand we want to go to the states for a better life, on the otherhand you end up living like a poor student in the US even after earning a PhD degree and 30+ years old!! Life of a postdoc is hard, one should pursue it with a strong reason, otherwise I dont think it worth your hard work and effort.

There are many faculty positions you can get on J1 like all research faculty positions, visiting professors etc and even more. And donot worry its easy to go from J1 to academic H1b
