I really like using a kintsugi-like principle to knitting. Seaming, fixing mistakes, shaping, these don't always need to be invisible, quite the contrary in fact.

Fascinating Roxanne! Your tutorials are SO interesting! You find such amazing topics to teach us. Unless I had some huge epiphany and decided to look up decorative seaming techniques, which I would probably never happen because life happens, then you bring them up! It’s truly a gift! Thank you so much!

That was really interesting as that was the method taught to me by my grandmother when I learnt to knit in the late 1950's. She taught me to knit dolls clothes as they incorporated all the necessary skills. I still have to master mattress stitch!🇬🇧

Your grandmother was brilliant! What a great way to teach you! I’ve been knitting off and on for years but just recently came to the realization that knitting baby sweaters is the way to go! I learn so much technique yet I’m not making a huge sweater for my overweight self, lol. I applaud your grandmother!

Hi I do enjoy your style of teaching in the tech Tuesday video's and the Casual Friday chat videos, and I find it fascinating how KZfaq works in the background. I am really happy that you were able to sort out your Red Aran Pullover.

I sometimes have to make corrections along the edge of my work by dropping stitches, and the resulting edge never looks quite right. Is this something you could cover for a Technique Tuesday? Thanks very much!

Interesting and loving the look. There is probably an obvious answer to this question and its maybe not exactly seaming related but..... So decreasing on a neck edge where you'll be picking up sts to add a neckband and don't want the obvious directional slant that working the decrease 2-3 sts from the edge would create. What is the least visible method that still allows a "clean" pick up edge?
@RoxanneRichardson

Place the decrease 1 st in from the edge and have them lean toward the edge, rather than away from the edge.

@@RoxanneRichardson thank you! It never occurred to me to have the decreases slant into the neck, rather than towards the shoulder! I made a baby jumper the other day & the neck was what I wasn't happy with.

I'm curious how you do your swatchs first and last stiches
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson 2 жыл бұрын
The selvedges were worked in stockinette. The explanation of the "knots" is based on seaming a stockinette edge, for both the swatches knit completely in stockinette, and those in garter stitch.

Weirdly, my copy of this pattern (same booklet, same photo etc.) doesn’t have those seaming instructions. It just says “sew in seams.” I think it was originally purchased in Canada, so maybe there was a different edition up here? I guess they didn’t think Canadians could handle the decorative seaming!

Check the last page of the book. My copy came from Canada, too. The pattern says, "Using flat seam, sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves." Page 28 has instructions for flat seaming and back stitch seam.
