@TrueFocusEyeCare

And when it's hard to tell that means the doctor is almost done! The best answer then is that they both look the same (both good or bad). That means that we just narrowed in on your prescription. Some doctors push for an answer of 1 or 2, or whatever number they are on, more than others, but the outcome is usually the same. Hope this helps!

I had an eye test from a through optician who I clearly remember saying 'Why are you on bifocals, you should not be on bifocals for at least 10 more years'. Always check if it's a optician who does give you a chance for a second opinion.
@TrueFocusEyeCare
@TrueFocusEyeCare 2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand the 10 years part. If someone is able to use bifocal for a few years, then it can be hard for them to transition to progressives, and it's the same the other way around. There are many people who love their bifocals and will use them for 30-40 years. Normally it's not the person doing the vision test who dictates whether you are using bifocals or progessives. It's usually the patient.

Be careful with that mindset. There are many diseases that affect the eye that are not noticeable in our vision, and if left alone, it can affect your vision permanently. Not worth it. You don't need glasses everytime you go, but treat it like getting a physical exam.

When I was younger I went to the eye doctors and my vision at that time was barely blurry at all. I got these glasses that were pretty useless, didn’t fit, looked bad, and actually made my vision worse. (I don’t think it was the doctors fault or my fault at the time, mostly the bad decision on frames and also I think because the glasses had same prescription for both eyes.) Even now, when my vision has deteriorated a lot, they don’t work. It sucks because I’m kinda afraid to go back in case it gets messed up again because I direly need glasses. So thanks for this video.

I would say that there way more people than you know who can cause a pair of glasses to be made wrong. If you have a problem with your vision, especially you seeing far away, then we can't blame TV or computer for that. That's because your eyes are a more complex animal than the camera that I had behind the machine. Your vision fluctuates constantly based on tear film, pupil size and accommodation. So it is our job as eye doctors to give you enough comparisons to dial in your prescription regardless of what your eyes are doing.

Had another eye doctor when my prescription changed the last time and she gave an option that was eye opening for me xD it was "better, worse or just smaller and more black". Because with some glasses it wasn't bad but the letters were just smaller and more black. Felt very comfortable with the prescription from day one, cause my other eye doctor would just show me the options one time and than be like "wow, teenage girls really have problems deciding" if I couldn't say something directly🤦🏻‍♀️

I appreciate your sincerity! Both of us are (were) nearsighted. My only question was this; Did i cause my own (myopia entry) by my nose on page reading habit. For me, the answer is yes. We have so many ways to help slow the progression of Myopia nowadays. Going outside is one of them and reducing the amount of indoor-near tasks do help. Genetics is the largest factor in myopia, but what we do after that will determine how nearsighted we can become.

HI! this is a very good video. I did see a optician last 2 days ago and did a test or exam same like in the video, it was my first time. because i noticed im having frontal headaches and nauseous when I started to go out after my quarantine. During the test i take time and choose which one that i can see clearly and the optician was very patient with me. It turns out i have nearsightedness, i cant see clearly/blurry far objects. When I wore the prescription glass i can see very sharp objects/letters that are quite far. I was amazed. QUESTION doc, since its my first time having specs. I want to improve my vision and minimize wearing specs due to work issues. What should I do? to improve my nearsightedness? the optician says they have to correct my nearsightedness and i have very mild astigmatism and i have to comeback after 6 months to check if the astigmatism is still the same..

Had the worst re appointment today. The last eye prescription was incorrect so i went back to them. They re checked it and refused to write the new prescription down for me. They just told me to give them the glasses and they'll 'deal with it'. I didn't get my glasses made from them as they use cheaper quality lens. When i told them I just wanted the new prescription written down and I'll get it made elsewhere. They started getting mad at me. The doctor said i was making things up and being overdramatic. He said my eyes are fine and i need to stop being so 'grumpy'. ( i am really introverted and shy. And i was polite throught the entire experience) I want to cry. I just want to have clear vision. Tomorrow I'll go to a new optometrist . Hope he is as nice as you are and helps me out. Thankyou for making these videos ❤

It's possible, but I have had patients who noticed a change in their vision during the wait of getting their new glasses to be made, then realize that they don't see as well when they put on the new glasses. The eyes like to play tricks on us like that sometimes! If you feel like your vision is not as good as you hoped for, then don't hesitate to go back to your eye doctor and ask for them to recheck the vision. If the prescription did change, then they should help you in getting new lenses. Hope this helps!

Hi Dr Vijay, I recently got a eye glasses exam, my face/head is small but the dr forgot to adjust the phoropter when taking my vision test. Will this affect any of the prescription numbers that he gave me (sphere, cylindeer, axis)? Thank you!
@TrueFocusEyeCare
@TrueFocusEyeCare 2 жыл бұрын
It will not. The biggest factor that needs to be adjusted in the phoropter before figuring out the prescription should be making sure that the phoropter is level. The PD (pupillary distance) is important when measuring the person's eyes in the new frame. But it does annoy me too when I can't test out my true binocular vision through the new Rx because the phoropter is too narrow or wide!

@TrueFocusEyeCare

Me too! It just means we see better up close than we do far away. It's not a disease, it is just describing where the light comes to a point in the eye. Myopia (point of focus is in front of the retina), Emmetropia (point of focus is on the retina), Hyperopia (point of focus is behind the retina). Everyone is one of the 3, unless they have astigmatism. Then they will have a combination. As long as the eye is healthy, we will be able to get clear vision with help of glasses or other means.

I dont have anxiety going to the eye dr (only the dentist). I do question if I am doing the test correctly or not. I asked a new eye dr's office if they were trying to get my eyes to 20/20 vision and they said not necessairly. I think I was thinking this was true and wasnt making the cut, but they are just trying to get you to the best vision you can get. A few times I questioned it if when my dr said is this better? If I was silent for too long, he would flip it again and I could make a decision. I think maybe there are times where its close, so I cant tell. Ive dealth with being nearsighed and astigmatism most of my life and now dealing with reading. I just got new glasses and cant see close w/them. So now Ive got a pair of glasses for distance, but now need readers I guess. I did have no line progressives, but I hate them. I realized today that I can see clearer out of the bottom portion of the progressives...better than my new current prescription. So Im trying to decide do I just want to go get readers and leave it alone or take my progressive prescript and get the lensess re-done. I am sad that my glasses cant provide both (I know progressives kind of can).

There is something called night blindness, where your vision can be blurry due to muscles spasms, and a small prescription could help. Also if you spend much of your day in front of a screen (computer device), then your eyes could be dry, which can also cause blurry vision at the end of the day. Warm compress and lid messages could be very beneficial if that's the case also. Check out our video on Warm Compresses and see if that helps.

Sir please resolve my query. Eye test computer machine (Refractometer) in optician shop give this reading :- -1.00/-0.50 axis_161° (right eye), -1.00/-0.75 axis_38° (left eye). And the optometrist of the shop give this prescription by using digital Phoropter device and digital display chart :- -1.00/-0.50 axis_160° (right eye), -1.00/-0.50 axis_20° (left eye). Why he reduced the left eye axis from 38° to 20° but not the selected nearby axis like 30° or 25° ? Isn't 18° cylindrical axis variation is high and outside the safe tolerance limit ? [ Few days ago, I also checked my eyes from the hospital, and their auto refractometer give -1.25/-0.75 axis_37° (for left eye) and the doctor gave prescription -1.25/-0.50 axis_30° (left eye). ]

We have to take into account your old Rx as well. Most auto refractors are not accurate enough to prescribe glasses off of, so usually after the Optometrist checks on his side, this will most likely be on the target. The auto refractory will get you in the ball park.

Call that office and ask for a "prescription recheck" becuase you have tried long enough to see if your vision would get better through the glasses, but it was never comfortable. Yes, it could be an issue on how it was made, but start by double checking the prescription, and if there is no change, then go back to where you bought the glasses, and has them to check the measurements. I have had 3 different exams lately, each with different results and am about to go back again. The last exam was the most comprehensive but the glasses still don't seem right. My question is - shouldn't my vision with glasses in both eyes be sharp? When I cover my right eye my left eye is still a bit blurry through the lenses. Many time our eyes are not equally sharp. It is natural. And a prescription can change slightly daily. But if you have one pair of glasses that are clear, then you can ask if they can copy that prescription. Now, if it is a different lens material or very different frame shape, then it can feel different looking through it.

I got different frames with smaller lenses, in hopes of minimizing the distortion that I could see if I looked anywhere but straight ahead, but that hasn't helped. I am on the verge of returning both pairs, getting a refund, and going elsewhere. I have different strength lenses for each eye but it still seems to me that I should be able to see clearly through each lens individually. I'll never try Target Optical again! I guess you really do get what you pay for.

@@jcparkins We do not all have the same vision in both eyes, so comparing to two eyes are not always a fair assessment. But a good optical is one that will continue to work with you without making you feel like you are the problem, and being willing to do what it takes to make you happy.

Hi doc hope you're doing well I'm a 18 year old boy and i have 4+ in right eye and 0.5 in the left eye but recently i started noticing some changes for example when i was watching a movie i couldn't see subtitles clearly. I could see shadow of words under the subtitle and also i couldn't see the movie clearly cos of the light and i always was squinting my eyes to see better. Hope i was clear for what i said i really would like an opinion from you Doc.?

My first recommendation is to see your local eye doctor to see if there was a change in your prescription. Next, your eyes could be a little dry. Tears make up 60-70% of our clarity, so if the vision tends to come and go at times when you are watching a movie, then it could just be your tears need a boost. I always had slightly lesser vision in my left eye , my right eye is always the strongest (-12). I went to the optometrist although they both are bad. This man had the audacity to tell me my left eye was -0.75 . What the heck is that even suppose to mean there is no way. While taking that lense test he kept going back and forth in lenses and every one of them was blurry to me. I just don't understand how he can prescribe me something I can't see in. But my old glasses I can see completely fine out of and they were around the same prescription as my right eye. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. Should I demand he test my left eye again?

You can always ask your eye doctor to recheck your vision if you are not comfortable with what you are seeing through your new glasses. But also remember that everyone's eyes are different. Just because one person can see something at a certain distance doesn't mean others can, even if fully corrected with glasses. But you can always get a second opinion just to be safe.

It could be a few different things. Could be the prescription or it could be your eyes were measured wrong behind your new frames (so you wouldn't be looking through the optimal center of the lens), or your new lenses may be a different material or base curve compared to what you are used to. I would look into those before I would blame your eyes for the issues.

A negative 3 or -3.00 is the lens power that is needed to bring your vision back to clear. This let's me know that you are nearsighted, or that you see great up close but blurry past a few feet. If you have the ability to see clear with this power either in glasses or contact lenses, then you do have perfectly healthy eyes. They just happen to need help getting the light to land perfectly on your retina. Hope this helps.

Is any part of the eye exam meant to be uncomfortable. Because it is for me and I can't see properly for a couple of days afterwards. Autorefractors are the worst.
@TrueFocusEyeCare
@TrueFocusEyeCare 3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple tests in a regular eye exam that are uncomfortable, but I wouldn't say anything is painful, unless you are super sensitive to light. The dilation drops can cause blurry vision temporarily, which may last 4-6 hours, but I've had some patients take a day or 2 to get back to 100%, but that is very rare. I've never had anybody have issues with our auto refractor. The puff of air in the pressure test can be annoying, but still not painful. But there are many ways to perform the same test, so if you are not comfortable with one of the tests, or you had a bad experience in the past, then ask them to use an alternative method! And if you still don't want a certain test, then let them know. We may not have all the puzzle pieces to assess your ocular health, but it's better than not getting checked at all!
@Blacksquareable
@Blacksquareable 3 жыл бұрын
@@TrueFocusEyeCare Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed reply. I really appreciate that. I dom't mind the air puff too much but I don't think anyone uses them any more because I think the autorefractor serves several purposes including checking eye-health. My left eye spasms quite easily and this gets taken as my prescription. I'd be quite haqppy to use the autorefracto at the end of the test if it must be used. Without my glasses I find lights really bothersome. I do have trouble getting taken sriously with any of this. The last time I had a a cycloplegic it knocked me out pretty much. So I guess that's not supposed to happen then?
@TrueFocusEyeCare
@TrueFocusEyeCare 3 жыл бұрын
Getting dilated can definitely knock some people for a loop, but this is why our office will offer a weaker dose for a more mild dilation. I think you may have the autorefractor mistaken with another machine. There are some autorefractors (this machine gives an estimate of the glasses prescription) that have keratometers and non-contact tonometers built in, but there is no autorefractors that can check the entire health of the eye. I think you may be thinking of a retinal camera. Some docs will use this instead of dilation if a patient refuses drops. Awesome questions, though! It's giving me more ideas of future videos!!

It's okay if the letters are not perfect. There is a range of clear vision that you will be able to see when we are doing this test. Outside of that range, you will have blurry vision. But on one of these sides, the more power I give you, you will notices the letters get darker, bolder and/or smaller. If I keep you on this side, it can cause headaches and eye strain, so we try to stay away from there. If you didn't notice that, then don't worry about. Not everyone will.
