This fascinating docu-drama uses expert commentary, on-location footage, and dramatic vignettes to tell the story of Friar Leo, a disciple of Saint Francis of Assisi. This story traces the origins of the Franciscan movement. Friar Leo was a cultured man, a priest, and a skilled calligrapher. He joined the Franciscan order and soon became the saint’s confessor and secretary. From about 1220 up until the time of Francis’s death, Leo was his constant companion.

This docu-drama is well-done. I like the narrative combined with the acting scenes. Helps me to feel like I'm there during the time of St. Francis.

5 Franciscan martyrs were tortured and killed in the 13th century in Morocco by the sultan. They knew they would probably be killed but went anyway.
