God's grace is truly amazing but did Newton ever asked forgiveness for his cruelty and evil as a slaver to the wretched poor slaves even one l am not denying his conversion but the moaning chanting of the humans in the bottom of the hell of a slave ship and using the melody of the slaves agony for the song amazing grace was a master stroke bringing clarity to the words of remorse for sins committed.
