In the age of electricfication, and tightning regulations, smaller V8s could be the answer saving the good ol' sound that we all love. I really wish manufactures would make them again.

Very nice video! Since you ended with the Ferrari 158, I suggest you do a part 2, because that is NOT where it ends on race car engines! There was the 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 with 1.5 supercharged V8. 1950s saw a couple of 2.5 liter V8s, Coventry Climax FPE in a Kieft car, and Lancia's succesful D50 later continued by Ferrari until 1957. In the 1960s 1.5 F1 era the famous Coventry Climax and BRM V8 engines. Also Italian ATS made a V8 for F1 in 1963. Last but not least, the Alfa Romeo V8 turbo from the 1980s F1 madness! There are many other racing engines in the 2-3 liter bracket as well, too many to list!

Over my years as a wrench/auto mechanic/grease monkey, I’ve picked up on a few items. Naturally, this is just my opinion. Compression ratio is king for making any internal combustion engine sound great. High compression (11-1, 12-1) always sounds better than a 7.5-1 or 8-1. Next is firing order. Even fire, odd fire, Hi revs with backfire are a turn off to me. That being said, thanks for another great ❤️video post and here’s to your 👍🏼KZfaq channel. Best of luck🍀 to you and your family!

We got our opinion. If you rather be Smokey with his Bandit, the Duke bros, or Toby Marshall, then we can. Im just saying it doesn't have to be just the way you drive. You could rev up a Ford 5.0 F150 with a high lift, a supercharger, and flowmaster 44s *OR* Chevy 6.0 2500 with 2 turbos, straight pipe, and Mickey Thompsons *OR* Dodge 3500 5.2 with a twincharger, glasspack, and semi truck wheels and still get girls with the engine growling.

@aussiebloke609
@aussiebloke609 7 жыл бұрын
Kinda. As best I can find, it was the heads that Turner _based_ on the design he used on the Triumph motorcycle engines (specifically the hemispherical combustion chambers), but that's about all. The rest of the engine design was based loosely on the Cadillac V8 of the period, and helped keep costs down by using overhead valves and pushrods. Either way, it was a great-sounding engine, and pretty powerful for it's time. :-) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daimler_V8_engines#cite_ref-8

One of my bosses told me that many years ago, we had one of those engines sitting at our shop. It handled old britbikes and some cars, was an interesting place. Wish he had more of that car, even if it was kind of ugly! That you could have gotten the same engine in a Jaguar Mk2 sold as a Daimler. With a manual that would be fun.
@johnmcf
@johnmcf 7 жыл бұрын
I'd say a manual would be brilliant in one. Unfortunately there were only 144 manuals made out of about 19,000 Daimlers and was only an option in the last 2 years. This was because the Daimler was marketed as the luxury/old mans's Jaguar.
@Oldbmwr100rs
@Oldbmwr100rs 7 жыл бұрын
Oh, so they got the Borg/warner T35 auto, ugh, that clunky old standby. Shame. It's crossed my mind to try boulding an XJ6 into a manual, as the parts are available to do it, and the B/W T5 manual is very common.

Very interesting for historical reference. Pretty amazing for their day, although they are a bit anemic by today's standards, and often quite heavy for their displacement. It's hard to beat a good modern Corvette (500 to 600 pound) LS engine with up to 755 HP in a stock factory car, and up to 1000 HP for a factory build custom performance engine.

It makes sense when you think about it. If you are looking at an arbitrary displacement limitation, the more cylinders your engine has, the shorter the stroke and this allows a lower deck height, improving the center of gravity.

That Ferrari 158 must feel amazing shifting up in 2nd or 3rd just experiencing the torque of an unforgiving dog box transmission.

Apart from that later F1 car, it's amazing how meaty and substantial these small V8s sound compared to their bigger brethren!

That’s the good thing about this old cars: they are difficult to handle. Evryone can drive a 1500hp ferrari LaFerrari with all the electronics it has. But i can bet that those who drove it cannot handle a 450HP ferrari F40. It’s just pure skill. You want to drive them? You must earn it.

The V8-60 as in the veddette turned out to be quite popular in the states, as a midget racing engine however, but popular nonetheless. What about the Buick-Rover 215? Or the Repco version for F-1 racing back in the sixties?

Also, great vids you give us, thank you VERY MUCH!!!! Please don't worry about the negative comment idiots, typical negative people trying to make others feel as negative as they do when they look at their ugly soul staring back at them in the mirror. ;-) I'm a born in the UK native English speaker and you commentate very well, I actually like your foreign accent with great English pronunciation.

Hello. I would like to ask something, although it could be out of subject, because I have found no sastisfying answer to it: why is French accent when speaking English considered as one of the most beautiful ones? I may not pronounce English like a native speaker, but I find it as pleasant to hear as a grinding barley mill.
