My father, Trevor Sarty, passed away yesterday (May 3, 2024) at the age of 77 following a very short battle with cancer. In the will I was left the camp land, which is just over three acres of mature growth pine, spruce, hemlock and some hardwoods.
Also situated on this land is Dad's pride and joy, The Camp. He and his father built this about 40 years ago. I hadn't been to the camp in a few years and took the trip out this morning to reflect on the time I've had with my father, sit and drink a coffee, smoke his tobacco pipe and take inventory of what needed to be done for maintenance and what needed to be cut on the land.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and watched this short video. I'm planning an overnight trip to the camp within the next few weeks to do some work and will film some updates than. I'm blown away with the number of views this video has received in such a short time and the amount of support and well wishes from viewers. I'm sure dad would find great pleasure in having soo many people seeing his happy place.

So sad for you my friend, but I loved the video and it was like looking at my dream spot. I'd have gotten along well with your dad I'm betting. I'm a single dad and my only child is 33 now, he's a good egg, most of the time! We've a tiny place in the country but only 3/4 acreage and folks pretty darn close. I hunt in the back yard with a crossbow and we are eating an awesome venison back strap and veggies roast in the crock pot this week over rice, all processed here. I try to do as much as I can to stay in touch with our forefathers, after all, what's happening now is insane. I'm banged up from a hard and adventurous life, pain is never on vacation. I tell my son not to grieve when I'm gone, I've had an full incredible life, which he is the best part of by any stretch, and I'll no longer be in pain. I tell folks I'm not afraid of dying, I just hope it doesn't hurt as bad as the kidney stone I once had did. I guess I'm just trying to say that although you are sad, he wouldn't want that at all. He lived in paradise and he had you, and he didn't end up in one of those terrible retirement homes for a long time as my grandmother did, cuz that's real sad. I hope this might help in some way my friend. Hang tough, he's in a better place now but he'll always be there by your side. I'd also love to see the work you do there as I went crazy seeing that deck, I'm replacing boards on ours that looks very similar right now, huge pain for this old man but gotta have that deck. We're on a steep hill too. Hope to see ya again soon and take good care.

@@user-mh6nn5ju7g Bro I only started hunting when the rona hit. Bought an $85 re-curve x-bow and built a little deck stand in a tree and the deer were already here. Had to watch a bunch of videos here on processing and it's been a learning curve for sure. Lot of work after you take that shot but the pay-off is so worth it. All but the straps are ground and used for chili, spaghetti, and burgers. I figure it's just about the healthiest meat around and when done right, there's no gamy taste at all. I do fell very blessed to have discovered and be able to enjoy it throughout the year my friend. Take good care out there and let's say a prayer for Mr. Sarty and his family.

Saw dust and kinda cluttered. I agree. Visit that place often, brother. Your pops lives on in your heart!!!!

I would say, just looking at this, and knowing your father built this with his dad, that he must have had a wonderful life, having cancer for a short time is a blessing, but, I am sorry for you losing him, (although I don't think he is really lost, just not physically able to talk to you like before). What a wonderful gift this cabin and the land are! If you can, take some time to spend a few days there as often as possible! Life is really short, even though it doesn't seem like it sometimes. I am 69, and just retired a little over a year ago, and feel like I spent a lot of my life trying to make sure my house was paid off and bills etc..... now, looking back, I feel like I sacrificed a lot of time with my own children who are now in their 40s, with their own kids who are almost all adults too.... I am not complaining, I did what I thought was right and we all love each other a lot, but.... I am realizing how important each moment is! I shouldn't be telling you what to do, maybe you don't even like being out in a cabin..... but, do what makes you happy, and spend time with loved ones, and sometimes by yourself too! Thank you so much for sharing this, I am a touch envious, but so happy for you! I will be dreaming about being in this place in my mind when I want to feel calm!
