The particular climatic conditions have led to the development of crops such as the grapevine, the fig, and the olive tree. Krk is also known for its large number of plant species, and it is the area around Baška, within the Adriatic context, that is richest in the number of rare and endangered species (endemic species and relicts).
There are some unique animal species, such as vultures and several kinds of owls. The owl’s hoot (from the genus Otus), is one of the most typical night sounds of the Baška karst area.
The little owl of the genus Athene and the long-eared owl are two of the rare and endangered species of owls; they live all over the island of Krk and on the islet Prvić, an ornithological reserve. There is also a whole world of underwater indigenous species to experience in their natural environment; one of these is the prawn, the most prized Adriatic crustacean.
Between Glavina point and the Bay of Mala Luka there is an area covering 1000 hectares called KUNTREP, which was declared a special Ornithological reserve in 1969.
The reserve’s area is a habitat for the Eurasian Griffin, and it is also possible to see short-toed Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Shags, Eurasian Eagle Owls, Stone Curlews, and other bird species.
Plant species include Dalmatian cornflowers, Istrian bluebells, Rijeka thistles, and others.

Osebujne klimatske prilike uvjetovale su razvoj kultura kao što su vinova loza, smokva i maslina. Pored toga Krk je poznat po velikom broju biljnih vrsta, od toga je okolica Baške u okviru cijelog Jadrana najbogatija po broju rijetkih i ugroženih vrsta (endemi i relikti).
U fauni ima jedinstvenih vrsta od supova do nekoliko vrsta sova (ćuk iz roda Otus) kao jednog od prepoznatljivijih noćnih zvukova bašćanskog krša. Sivi ćuk iz roda Athene, te ušara jedna od rijetkih i ugroženih vrsta sova, a obitava na cijelom otoku Krku i na otočiću Prviću (koji je orintološki rezervat). U podmorju se mogu doživjeti autohtone vrste u prirodnom okruženju, a jedna od njih je i škamp kao najcjenjeniji jadranski rak.
Između rta Glavine i uvale Mala luka nalazi se područje površine 1000 ha pod nazivom KUNTREP, koji je 1969. godine proglašen posebnim ornitološkim rezervatom. Na području rezervata stanište je bjeloglavog supa, a može se vidjeti i orla zmijara, sivog sokola, morskog vranca, sovu ušaru, ćukavicu i dr. Biljne vrste obuhvaćaju dalmatinsku zečinu, istarski zvončić, riječki kravljak i dr. Vegetaciju čine kamenjarski pašnjak i endemične zajednice stjenjača. Nadmorska visina područja iznosi 475 m.
