Beautiful golden hour footage of Rome and a very informative vlog! Thanks for showing us what Rome looks like at the moment and for telling us about the history behind the sights. I was obviously expecting it, but it is still incredible to see just how quiet and empty many of Rome's streets and sights still are compared to normal times. And don't feel rushed to upload your vlogs - their quality is worth the wait :)

Another excellent presentation of your travels, this time in spectacular Rome, and how it looked when I was there in 1973 and 1980 with less tourists. The mood music accompanying your video is a great choice also. Well done again. I hope one day you will get a chance to go to Istanbul to offer your presentation of that amazing iconic and historical city.

What lovely filming is in this video, especially the Roman forum at dusk. Magnificent. And the commentary, whether from Jason Billam, King George, Amy Walter, or even "Johnny Cashmere", is just right. Nicely done, a real piece of art in itself. (Using the technique of green screen, perhaps? I could be wrong, that's just a guess.) I first visited Rome with my dad in the summer of 1969, as a little kid. I spoke no Italian, refused to eat anything with tomatoes or cheese in it, and since I was traveling with only my dad, who didn't know how to comb a little girl's hair, the Italians must have thought I was a very strange and tousled American child. I had a great time, though. I was way too young ever to look in a mirror, and I subsisted just fine on pastina im brodo and baked chicken dinners. I remember visiting the Piazza Navona, seeing the Boromini church and the Bernini statue that summer when I was six. There was a little crowd that had formed around a street entertainer, a muscley roustabout who was about to lift a heavy rock into the air with his bare hands. He took a lot of time strutting around, ostentatiosly donning his wrist guards in preparation for the lift, and collecting donations from the crowd. The scene was like something out of a movie. Then my Dad bought me a giant helium balloon from a vendor with a cart there in the Piazza. The balloon was blue, a four-foot-long wavy squiggle that was bigger than I was. Back at the hotel that evening, after the helium had all leaked out, we saved the empty blue remnant as our souvenir of the day. The next time I visited Rome with my dad, I was fifteen. I kept a travel diary that summer, that is really funny to read now. It described all the places we went as tourists, as we made our way north to our destination at an early music festival in a tiny town in the Appenines. My dad had already introduced me to the Italian language by that time. Though we are not ethnically Italian, my dad is a devotee of Italian art and music. After the earlier trip we had taken to Italy together in the summer of 1969, my Dad had spent the rest of the summer at home in America making me learn Italian, using mainly I A Richards' Italian Through Pictures and various children's books. This meant that I had already had some foundation in the language when we returned to Rome some nine summers later. On that second trip, I was encouraged by my dad to make a proper study of the Italian language. By then, I was fifteen years old, and had started learning Latin at school. The Italian verb conjugations made good sense in the Italian grammar book he bought me and had me study from that summer. We toured for two weeks before settling down to attend the summer music school that was the purpose of our trip. At that time, in 1978, you did not need to buy tickets in advance to visit the Roman forum and the Palatine hill. We did buy a guide book to the forum from the museum shop there. My dear dad went with me, step by step and stone by stone, through the entire Roman forum, as I took us from paving stone to column to statue, reading out loud to my dad, all about each and every historical item from the comprehensive and detailed guide book. After exhausting that source of historical information, we went for a long ramble on the Palatine hill, snacking on a picnic we had brought with us. At one point near the Palatine, we walked through a tunnel-like passage outdoors between two tall walls, along a path that sloped upward. At the end of the passage, you could see only the sky, no buildings or people. The traffic sounds of modern Rome were too far away to be heard. As we made our way along this outdoor passage, I couldn't help wondering what century we would find ourselves in when we emerged.

Hi Jason Just landed in Rome yesterday and seeing how quiet the capital is, never to see like this again in my lifetime.. Having the whole of August to travel Italy we’re heading to Naples then onto Sicily before heading back up the east coast to Venice or Verona.. Safe travels

Thank you Jason for introducing us to this city. I am astonished I've never heard of it. It has a lot of potential and the locals seem nice. But that's what I love about Europe, it's full of hidden gems like this. One must go there before tourists discover it and ruin it like other places. Although, many will feel like packing up instantly and going there after watching your video, haha.

I was in Italy during the Holy Week in 2017. I was in Rome the day before Easter Sunday. The entire city was packed that day. The Trevi Fountain was so packed. And a guy managed to propose to his girlfriend there. Where you stood to the right of the fountain, I sat briefly and tossed a coin into the fountain. Thanks for sharing.

Good choices of music, Jason. I was in Rome when I was 20. I was more interested in wandering around the city exploring neighborhoods than I was in visiting historical sites, though of course I visited some of the major ones. So your tour was very helpful.

Enjoyed watching your video, specially that vantage point overlooking the Roman Forum. Hope you get to visit the Church of St Praxedes. It’s in the area near Roma Termini. It has beautiful mosaic images. Looking forward to your next videos. Stay safe and enjoy !!! c”,)

I spent one week there about 3 weeks about. It was so interesting to be there witb no tourists! Really an incredible opportunity to enjoy the city without waiting in line. The Vatican was especially neat! I was one of four people waiting in line when they opened on a Sunday morning.
