We're visiting the largest migratory bird sanctuary in North America! Over 200,000 birds come to Bonaventure Island off the coast of the Gaspé Peninsula to breed and nest every year. This national park is where you find the most accessible colony of northern gannets in the entire world. It's incredible how close to them you can get! It's also the third largest colony in the world with more than 114, 000 northern gannets. They are fascinating to watch and this experience is an absolute MUST in Gaspésie. Take the boat from Percé to get a better look at iconic Percé Rock before circling Bonaventure Island. You'll get a spectacular view from the water before disembarking and hiking across the island to see the birds up close. This is one of the top wildlife experiences we've ever had and we highly recommend it. Set aside a day and pack a lunch because, trust us, you'll want to take your time witnessing this gem of nature.
We are delighted to partner with the Québec Maritime Tourism Board to bring you this new series around one of the most picturesque and historic parts of Canada. We've had a lot of requests to share more of our home country and this is the perfect time to introduce you to one of the best summer road trips in Canada.

Seeing places like Pikes Peak at the top on a clear sunny day from up there, or seeing all of the wild animals of Yellowstone National Park several years back.

I was as a volunteer in Belarus 🇧🇾 for 1 year, I love the Nemunas River, pure nature, unfortunately very poor country but people with the big hearts. Thank you for your episode about this gorgeous island with majestic seabirds. Xoxo 💕💕

I remember experiencing the same on a trip to Auckland, New Zealand, to the Muruwai Gannet Colony. Amazing sight! But I don't remember having to hike that far. Thank you for taking me on all your travels.

Thanks! Much more to the Gaspe than I imagined! I learned a lot about the northern gannet….They are a remarkable bird….. ….You were lucky not to get poop on your lovely hat! 🙂

haha that's a very good point about the poop 😂 Clearly there must be A LOT of it around but we didn't really notice it to be honest. Maybe too distracted by the incredible birds. And, yes, they are remarkable. Watching all the different behaviours made time slow down.

Another video of yours which I won't soon forget. Incredible. I think I've heard of gannets, but that's about it. All the information you provided just blew my mind. Amazing how they bend their heads every which way. Shame about the avian flu. The shots of them in flight was fantastic. Eileen and Marc, you are legends. This vlog, one of many, reinforces my gratitude that I found this channel.

Hi Scott! Thank you so much! Your comments are always awesome and appreciated :) I also wasn't very familiar with gannets before visiting this colony. They are really fascinating birds. It is really sad about the flu but I hope it won't affect them too badly. Heartbreaking to see though. Let's hope lots of those eggs become successful birds that grow to be 20 years old!

I visited this island as a child of about 7 or 8 I think, back in the late 60's. ( I'm from NY). I remember all the birds! My parents loved to travel & we drove all the way around Gaspe, more than once! Thank you thank you for this amazing video!! it brought back all of my memories from this lovely place, and you two are so fabulous!

I love reading this wonderful memory of yours - thanks for sharing! Family road trips make for some of the best times, don't you think?! The birds would certainly leave an impression. Have you been back to Gaspé since? I wonder how you'd find it now. We did a 10 day road trip around and made videos of the whole experience. They're here if you'd like to see more (and hopefully some more throwbacks too!): bit.ly/quebecplaylist :)
