Kandy is a beautiful city in Sri Lanka's famous hill country. And in this video, we go to the last capital from Sri Lanka's king's era and visit the sacred city. This beautiful place also is home to the temple of the sacred tooth, which holds The Buddha's left canine tooth!

Hi dear... Oh yes this is my place and I absolutely love going and worshipping this world heritage and world renowned buddhist site... Apart from these, this place is so special and significant to me cause,my late father's hometown is very close to this great kandy city as well🤗❤️ I guess that 'Raja' the elephant was the luckiest and the most blessed elephant on earth who was vested with the responsibility of carrying the world famous buddhas tooth relic, placed in a casket, atop this proud pachyderm, for a record number of tmes and he had performed this ritual every year in the month of August and it is called the world famous "Kandy Esala Perahera or the pageant ..Hope you had heard of this great pageant, Hadn't you? .. 👏👏❤️🐘🙏 Reckon, he is the luckiest and the most blessed elephant compared to others who, unfortunately, had to settle for menial jobs which is an extremely pity sight to behold for anyone... 😢🙏 I see in here that you were concerned and worried about rajah being mistreated by the authorities but he wasn't by any stretch of one's imagination, as infact he was the luckiest of elephants to carry the world famous tooth relic at the above pageant.. ❤️🙏 Anyways, in general, we all condone vehemently any type of mistreatment or cruelty to any animal but not in majestic Rajas case❤️🤗 All in all, this temple is the best place to seek refuge and solace in a time of distress and sadness.. Also, distressing to see people manning theses places are hell bent on ripping off the tourist and tainting the good image of the place by demanding tourists to pay more for keeping their belongings at the entrance which is very much against the teachings of our great, lord buddha and his preachings.. 😔😔👌❤️ Tnx and Hugs.xoxoxo . Very beautiful place indeed Gams, and I can imagine it has extra significance to you if it was near the hometown of your late father! 😊 And I think our opinions about this topic will differ. Although he might not be mistreated I don't believe we should be using wildlife for any of these kinds of activities, whether this is for working or religious purposes. Of course, these elephants are treated better than work elephants, but I don't like seeing elephants used by humans in general. The story of Raja is also he was taken from the jungle... I believe he should have been left there to live his life. Especially since the tusker gene is so rare in the wild in Sri Lanka. Removing healthy tuskers from the wild doesn't help preserve those genes to be passed down to hopefully more generations of tuskers. I can also imagine it to be quite stressful for an animal to have so much noise, lights, people, smells etc around it. But this is my opinion... We took the tour at the temple, not really a thing we usually do but it was ok. Silly thing was the payment afterwards which is always a discussion. Sri Lanka is amazing, hope you have a good time there

All are humans But not all pay taxes to the Government. Locals pay taxes and foreigners not. Its all over the world that having higher price for foreigners for places like this, But forcing for donation is not fair.

To be honest, most of the time the higher prices for foreigners don't really bother me too much, most countries have this. Costa Rica has this with its national parks, and Cape Town in South Africa does this with some of its attractions so I am used to it. Of course, there are some places that ridiculously overcharge foreigners, but okay that's another story haha. But thanks so much for watching!! Having lived in Sri Lanka for a couple years, I can tell you, it is an amazing place with wonderful people. BUT, as a foreigner, you are viewed as a piggy bank when you go to tourist sites and use tuk-tuks. Eventually, I learned to avoid tuk-tuks and use cars (taxis, apps) and hire drivers for longer trips. And once you've been to the touristy places, to try to avoid them. After you've made local friends and can get out of this tourist circuit, your experience improves enormously. I don't blame people as the people trying to scam you are likely poor; but there was something about the scamming in Sri Lanka that really got under my skin - it's like, people will be all nice and pretend to be your friend and then rip you off in obscene ways. I'm not sure Sri Lankans themselves are aware of the problem. But, don't let it color your view of the country as a whole.

Definitely didn't let it colour my view of the country, I enjoyed Sri Lanka! And I can definitely imagine the experience being different once you go off the tourist track and have more local friends!

Very true unfortunately. I am a diaspora Sri Lankan and being tourists being charged separately from locals was one of the greatest things that bothered me. I think for my home country to improve their tourist offerings, such practices should be eliminated

idk maybe that guy could'nt understand english or something like that, but if not extremely sry for your inconvenience. The authorities should fire him, I mean this place is a very very sacred place to us and such behavior should not be tolerated.

Hmm it didn't seem like that but we asked the military officers and found out it was a donation. We still donated, but the situation was a bit weird.
