I'm thinking of staying there. Where I used to stay (The Roger Smith) has been sold and turned into a timeshare. I love the history of the New Yorker, the art deco lobby and location. The rooms are small and simple, not fit for a luxurious vacation but good for a couple night stay if your in town for an event. I too have seen prices as low as $100.

I totally agree. They’re definitely not the largest rooms, but I’ve found those difficult to come across in NYC. Enjoy your trip!

This was a wonderful, thorough review! Proud of you. :) Also, really want to stay here whenever we go to NY and go to the museum because I find Nikola Tesla fascinating.

Hello from London. We stayed there for our honeymoon in 1995. Great to see what it looks like now. I couldn't afford to stay there now.... Thanks for your honest review.

That’s so cool! I wish I could have seen it in 1995, would have liked to know what upgrades they did because I know much like all of NYC, they’re always remodeling. Thanks for the support!

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I read some history that it was newly a hotel again then after being owned by a church. The room decor was definitely more basic, but normal for the time. The bathroom seemed like the original decor: green tiles, very '30's. We stayed in two different rooms, in between, traveling coast to coast by train! The lobby looked similar. Downstairs was a food store! I remember going to another floor to have a look and it was all deserted and dark, not been refurbished yet. Quite creepy! Good job I'd not watched any of those hotel based horror films before then. (1806?)

I stayed here on my first trip to New York in around 1997. Apart from the redecorated rooms the rest looks pretty much the same. Great location and lovely art deco building. We're going back again this summer

Yep! I loved the location. One of my favorite parts about the property. It's in the middle of everything.

We are in town for theater biz alot, and this is our go-to given it's across the street from Penn Station (we take the train in and out) and easily walkable to all our theater business. The Tick Tock diner there is wonderful as well. The hotel is nothing fancy, but good size rooms, especially for NYC.

Nice! I absolutely love the location. It's so walkable, yet not in the extreme mix of it all.

Super helpful video - thanks! My wife and I are coming to USA from NZ over Christmas and will be in NYC for Christmas, so trying to find somewhere nice spend a few days in the city. I've seen some reviews complaining about loud noise from water pipes and very slow lifts etc. Was this your experience?
@theetravelingwriter

So honestly, there were so many elevators I did not notice a delay. There were loud water pipes, however most hotels in NYC haven’t yet mastered masking older pipes so I do believe this is a theme you will likely see reoccurring through NYC hotels. As far as noise, it was shockingly quiet. In the hallways while walking to my room it was loud, but after you close your door or inside, everything is pretty muffled. Hope this helps.

would you recommend it for a solo 4 nights stay? regards

Absolutely. It’s small so it’s ideal for one person. Also, it’s a great location.

I am sure they will. I would just call to confirm, but it appeared to cost $5/bag at the bag check-in.

I heard you can get a fridge upon request right? I need it for my insulin.

This is a great review! Prob staying here. Do all the rooms not have a refrigerator??
@theetravelingwriter
@theetravelingwriter 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! If I remember correctly, the only rooms with the fridge in it are the suites. Otherwise, I believe they will bring one to your room but charge a flat rate of $30.

Hello did you have to pay a resort fee and deposit? Thank you:)
@theetravelingwriter
@theetravelingwriter 2 жыл бұрын
There was a resort fee of $40.16 at the time I went for my stay. I believe I was charged the resort fee for one night only. I paid everything up front, but contingent upon what booking platform you use, you can pay it all at the hotel (no deposit). I believe Expedia has this option. Hope this helps. :-)
