I grew up in the town. My second cousin 'Tarter Welham', stonemason, was employed making the fabric safe. Revisited from exile many times, with young family. Thank you for the video.

Granite quarries in England were in Devon and Cornwall... Okehampton castle has underground tunnels...There are metamorphic rocks of granite, other eruptive materials, and rocks from the devonian period. Additionally, limestone, beerstone (a chemical variancy of limestone) and shale or slate can be found. The oldest part of the castle is made from granite and metamorphic rock... The younger parts of the castle were built from the different types of limestone found in the area, along with shale and granite. Granite was used for the fireplaces, while lead and slate were used for roofing works...Granite, coarse- or medium-grained intrusive igneous rock that is rich in quartz and feldspar; it is the most common plutonic rock of the Earth's crust, forming by the cooling of magma (silicate melt) at depth...

Interesting site - I’m surprised there appears to be public access to the base and interior of some precarious looking walls. In the US and (from what I’ve seen) Ireland anything that looks like it’s about to fall on someone gets fenced off for public safety & legal liability reasons. US sites often add steel rods at an angle to prop up overhanging sections.
