The Siesta Key drum circle is an experience you should not miss. Literally hundreds of people drumming ,dancing, Juggling, and having a great time at sunset. So much fun. Also another fun place to eat is the Siesta Ket Oyster Bar. A nice funky place with great food and live music. P.S.... I have lived in Sarasota since 1974 and I absolutely love living here.

My favorite place to eat is Captain Curts Down by Midnight Pass and Stickney Point....I've been going to Siesta Key longer than you've been alive...it's my paradise

I really enjoyed your wonderful video. Such a beautiful beach. My sister and I vacation in Florida every year and do at least one run plus a few walks on the beach. It is my favorite thing to do while we are there. I pray your training goes well for the 50k.

Sunday evening on Siesta Key a bunch of percussion musicians do a “ DRUM CIRCLE “ you have to experience. You don’t go to , listen , to the vibe , you go to , feel , the vibe . Everyone should participate, anyway you feel it . I’ll definitely take some kind of percussion instrument next time I’m there . Put it on your bucket list .

Siesta Key is one of my favorite places in Florida. Love that beach. I like The Hub for lunch there. For a nice dinner, drive down the key to Ophelia’s. If you want to spend some time in the area, hop over to St Armand’s Circle, grab some ice cream at Kilwin’s and dinner on Longboat Key at Dry Dock Waterfront Grill. I worked at Dry Dock back in the 90’s right after college. The Old Salty Dog on Longboat is the one I used to frequent. It is by Mote Marine, which is worth a visit. And if you are hungry for pizza, back on 41 in Sarasota is Demetrio’s. A decent pie. Of course, my disclaimer is that I don’t get down there as much as I used to, even though I live in Florida now. Spend more time now in Cocoa and especially New Smyrna, as it is closer to where I live.

I’m across the state and the only elevation I can find is our bridge over the intracoastal waterway that connects our city to the island. The big bummer is the traffic - it’s elevation that comes with exhaust fumes. If you’ve never been in Florida during “season,” prepare yourself!

Siesta is a very nice beach! our waters all along that coast and even Tampa Bay get really clean and clear in the winter months. Oh, and those shrimp tacos looked soooooooo good!!! I'm gonna have to check that place out for sure! 🙂

Kudos for that sunset- you brought me back to a time years ago with your comment about a side pain! I used to run in trail running races. Often times I would get a side pain in the first or second mile. It got to where I would actually anticipate them and would just ignore them until they went away. They always went away after a mile or two. Good luck Kelly!

I live 2 miles from siesta key. I walk to the beach and walk the whole beach at sunset a few times a week. Next time you're here if you like crab legs try Monks steam bar in gulfgate. Just down the street from the beach

Another beautiful video. I’m looking forward to learning more about the ultra run. I watched a thru hiker named Ultra Hiking Girl, when she accomplished the AT. She took that trail name because she is an ultra runner. You may be interested in checking her out. Some time after the AT, she did a 100 mile ultra run.

Check out Mt. Dora, FL - there is some elevation there. Cyclists train there. If you make it to Mt. Dora, Jeremiahs has great food, love their chicken Caesar salad. Good luck!!

I was just there yesterday and Friday. I do your run all the time but as a walk and usually stick around for the sunset. Does that 7 miles include the run back to your car to lock it? I didn't realize I was walking so far. That parking lot fills up on weekends during the peak season and there are entire weeks that you can't park there every day. Looks like you were there just before the Siesta Key Sand Classic kicked off. There's a place around here called Celery Fields which is a slag pile from dredging activity but it may provide the elevation you are looking for. There is likely something closer to you, though. You also might enjoy Anna Maria Island for a beach run. End to End is 8 miles and there is a free shuttle but it will be hard to park there soon. And there's also Robinson Preserve for hiking and kayaking and South Lido for kayaking.

Go 2 to 3 miles south to Turtle Beach and Turtle Beach Campground. Small campground. Difficult to get a spot but I liked the beach there even better than Siesta Beach. Met some great folks there and even went skinny dipping after dark with a nice lady friend I met.

I really enjoyed this video. I love the beach and all your beach videos. I've never been to the Gulf Side of Florida I've only been to Daytona Beach. The water was really warm there. Is the water colder on the Gulf Side?

A star fruit, how interesting. Never heard of that before, looked bizarre. Train at altitude, sounds like the Grouse Grind. [you run up the side of a mountain just shy of 3000 stairs with an incredible 800 m elevation gain over only 3 km, 'mother natures stairmaster']

That is a great beach. I like it there. I use to do sunrise on the east coast with breakfast then sunset on the west coast with dinner and live music. By the way that guy was creepy. He shouldn’t have walked up on you like that. I have a feeling you are up to something really big.

Ok, I am super excited you are doing an ultra. I often thought watching your hikes you could nail a 50k. I've completed one 50k, had to drop out of another at 18 miles with severe leg cramps. I am just getting the bug to do another. The thing I love about them is you get to explore new trails that someone else has blazed and marked, and the people are just the best, you will find another tribe, I am sure. Get the vert in! I did not do enough and that's what killed my second one. Will you be sharing which one you are doing? BTW I think "van" guy was trying to flirt with you. Awkward.

Only the best beach voted by one organization. If you want a beach just as beautiful try St George Island. It’s voted the best by another survey! Imagine the beach where you are without the people!
