Torrevieja is a seaside resort located on the Mediterranean Sea, 41 km south of Alicante in Spain. The municipality is 71 km² in size, has about 20 km of coast. In the past, however, salt extraction from salt lakes, the Salinas of Torrevieja and La Mata, was the main activity. Vroeger was echter de zoutwinning uit de zoutmeren, de Salinas van Torrevieja en La Mata, de hoofdactiviteit.
