The Vitamix is one seriously hyped-up blender. Every cooking show and food blogger seems to have the so-called top-of-the-line machine. But is it really worth the hype? We tested out the Vitamix Ascent A2500 model (which goes for around $750) with three challenges to see how it measured up compared to a regular, household blender. (For those of you who are curious, it's a KitchenAid model that goes for around $150-$200). Do you have a Vitamix? Tell us what you think about it in the comments below.

It's important to read the instructions first 😁 I just got my 5300 today and I made a smoothie to start and it was a blast. Yogurt, almond milk, 2 dates, pits removed, 1 banana, frozen strawberries, frozen cherries and blend! No tamper required when you add enough liquids and put the softer bits at the bottom!

You do not need to hold the cover on a Vitamix while blending. When making a smoothie, first add enough liquid to cover blades, blend, then add ice at end of blend if desired.

I only discovered Vitamix when my last department store blender just wasn’t doing the job. I ended up getting the A2500 and it was worth every cent, the quality is spectacular, powerful machine. I can grind 4 lbs of tomatoes etc for gazpacho in 60 seconds one batch and there’s no worry about it “walking” away like the machine it replaced. I have watched many videos to get a feel for how and what to do. Once you have that down pat, you’ll swear by the machine, it’s a work horse.

Nice job. Few tips, you don't need to hold the vitamix, once it gets going you can walk away, hence the presets function. you need to load it from liquids, soft, harder then ice. Your smoothie ratio recipe was off( looks like too much frozen to liquid) . Finally you can get a much cheaper model vitamix or a reconditioned one for aroud $300.

Great vid, if you want you’re smoothie work well, you shouldn’t add too much „ice“, while the frozen strawberrys you added count as ice as well. Aaaand you have to put in the softer ingredients first and then the harder ones, again the frozen strawberries. And in this case the ice cubes are too much ice, therefore you’re smoothie was more of a mash pulpy thing😄

The Vitamix is worth it. First 750 pro bought had issues as coupling shredded and motor almost burn up. Blade was seized from factory? Return it and tried the newer revision with wider jar and haven't had a issue since, had it for 5 years and upgraded and ended up selling it for almost the same price I paid for it. Now have the A3500 and use it pretty much daily lately to make my birds food and my green smoothies. I hated the clear plastic jar at first on the new a3500, as almost was going to get another 750 pro, but grown to like it better as did get use to it. If you do get the Assent series buy the Vitamix Ascent Series 48-Ounce Self-Detect Wet Blender Container. I think they sure bundle this jar instead of the 64 Ounce Jar with the blender. The 48 ounce Jar is my go to as do smaller batches.

Way too much ice in that smoothie. You also failed to mention that the blades run at approximately 240 miles per hour which intern breaks the cell walls of the vegetables and fruits that you were making a smoothie out so the body can better break down the nutrients. The other cheap blenders are not going to do this. Not to mention the warranty and customer service if you need it.

I think the secret is that the blades in the vitamix aren't sharp, so they pulverize rather than chop the food. America's Test Kitchen consistently ranks one of the less expensive Vitamixes (legacy model with a taller, thinner container) at the top of their list. It's about half the price of this model.

Hi! I recently bought the reconditioned new "A2500" model at a great price online on Black Friday (I didn't received it yet!), but now I hesitate because the reconditioned "Standard Programs" is currently also at a great price ($30 lower than the reconditioned "A2500"). Both seem to have the same features (3 preset programs), but the A2500 is more "techno". The jars are also different and that's what makes me the most hesitant, because the jar of the Standard Programs seems more practical for small blend. Do you have a preference? Thank you :)

Sarah Doublali - don't be afraid of a certified refurbished model Vitamix.. I've had mine for 10.5 years - a refurb. My mother also got a refurb 9 years ago that she abused terribly (not following instructions). Because she was still in her 5 year warranty period (yes, refurbs come with 5 years), she called them up. They had her send it in. In less than a week (she's in Ohio as are they so. . . ) they sent her a new one, shipping paid both ways. Also, on the standard vs the techno version - you are talking a difference of only $30 (now, if that's actually a budget buster, definitely switch them). The techno version jars a a great feature (pricy though). Unlike the standard edition, you'll be able to expand capabilities for years to come. The Perfect Blend app and scale adds even more capabilities to the smart series Vitamixes.

Get the 2500 if your torn between the 2. Really you could get the 2300. You are paying about $100 to move up from the 2300 to 2500 to gain 3 pre-procrammed settings. You are paying $150 between the 2500 and 3300 just to now have touch screen and programmable timer. That is not worth it to me. Otherwise, all of the Vitamix Ascent series is exactly the same. If you like pre programmed settings, pair any of the blenders in the Ascent series (a2300, a2500, a3300, a3500) with the Perfect Blend scale and app and you add 17 pre programmed settings just like that (I got the scale refurbed for $60 and the app is free).

I've just purchased a Duronic blender via Amazon UK. Very similar style to the Vitamix, comes with a tamper. It's a 1500 way motor, makes cashew butter in minutes, totally impressed, hummus, energy balls and really lovely smoothies. BPA free jug. And cost me £75. 😁

If you asked a person who didn't know how to drive to test drive a Ferrari you would have poor results. Vitamix provides very clear instructions on how to layer ingredients for effective blending and you didn't follow. The same power and blending results also come with other Vitamix blenders at much lower price points - pretty obvious you're just trying to dissuade people from buying.

Just got my Explorian (refurbished) for bargain price a little over $200. I am so psyched and happy. I have no idea how I even survived without it! I've been vegan (with severe dairy allergy) going on 14 yrs now. I've gone thru at least 3 machines! Just buy it instead of your next machine--you won't be sorry!

The cheapest reconditioned one was this and it was $400 in sgd ouch but I’m begging my mum to buy for me cause I love ice cream, putting frozen fruits in without water (mine broke because of that), make nut butter. I want to make my own peanut butter so badly since I wanna be more healthy. Organic Peanut butter are all from overseas here so it’s pricy

The key to using a sophisticated blender, no different than a Ceado E37S and ECM Synchronika is practicing with it until you get it right. Don't take phone calls while experimenting. You brought in baseball to your presentation. Well, Perfect practice makes perfect. My son could tell you that. But here is the scoop. If you want to be as good as Thomas Keller, You need to experiment all the way to making your own menu that you can charge like Thomas Keller at $300 a visit and a 1 year waiting list to a wonderful revelation. You are entering a world of making people happy with food.

Yes, that's correct. Vitamix actually recommends that one should put the heaviest to lightest items in order. If this is done, you shouldn't have to use the tamper and it will come out silky smooth.

Compare the warranties, if you really want to understand the price difference. The Vitamix A2500 carries a 10-yr full warranty. The KitchenAid 5-Speed Diamond Series carries a 1-yr full, 5-yr limited (and I'm sure the "limited" will be so limited as to not be of any value). Even re-conditioned, the A2500, selling on Amazon, carries a 5-yr full warranty. If your finances are limited, then the KitchenAid will be a fine choice.

Get the A2300 instead. It is the most basic model with 10 year warranty. Anything higher in price and model number, and you are just paying for extra features such as timer pre-settings and buttons. It is more expensive because it has a rpm power that is 16 times stronger than a lower-end blender. You can make your own nut butters, soups, nut milks, ice creams and smoothies without or less sodium, sugar, additives and preservatives. Lastly, the ascent series is an updated system with accessories that are more compatible with each other than any past series. You can get the dry container to make flours instead of nut butters. It comes in a smaller wet container, single serve container for on the go and 8 ounce container for spices, coffee or baby food. These are points that were missed in the video.

What is the horse power for the vitamix and the lower cost blender? You are comparing tomatoes with potatoes not apple to apple and make sure the apple skin is the same color and same kind. Hope that will help you further your broad cast. I was driving and I didn’t want to touch my phone but it made me want to just throw my phone out the window because of you.

Your smoothie didn't turn out because you made it wrong. You have to have a little liquid in there as well. Also, you always put your leafy products first and all your frozen goods at the very top so the blades are spinning nice and fast by the time the strawberries and I said them.

Is the Vitamix worth the hype? No Is it a good blender? Yes Is it well constructed and of quality materials? Yes Does it make perfect blends every time? No. I have had smoothies with frozen chunks of fruit left over and milkshakes that simply stopped blending (as if the blades no longer moved) and had to be turned on and off 2 - 3 times to start again. What is the real value of the various models? I'd say about $179 to $289 Do I know exactly how to use one? You also did not add the ingredients in the right order or enough liquid. That particular smoothie mixture should never have required a tamper. Also, you would have been more convincing (seeing that you've admitted not being a good cook) if you'd followed one of the recipes in the Vitamix or other blender's recipe book. I used to kill a $100 to $200 blender about every 18 months. I finally got tired of that and bought a refurbished unit from Vitamix. That was 10.5 years ago. I accidentally left a spoon in a smoothie mix. The spoon didn't fare so well, but the Vitamix still churns 9.5 years later. If you are only into light blending (like yogurtt, soft, unfrozen fruits without grainy textures and small seeds from time to time, a Vitamix is absolute overkill. But if you are really into the culinary, from chopping, to liquidy mixtures, to nut butters, frozen treats, to doughs, or hot soups, or just a seriously religious smoothie and juice nut, and/or the unit will be used pretty much regularly by or for a family (large portions and/or multiple users), you may get by with a Ninja, but i would recommend nothing less than a Vitamix or Blendtech for the best most consistent results and longevity. The new Vitamix like this series come with a 10 year warranty.

@@chuckychuck awfully late reply there... But you might want to scroll down in the comments to the one from Nancy Rose... You get what you pay for. Personally, I'd rather have something that will easily last my lifetime vs the cheaper blenders. You'd be surprised at what these vita mixes can handle. There's a very good reason why the professionals use mostly nothing but vita mixes vs any other blender.
